Royal Knight Armor Upgrade Path?

  Not everyone uses all armor for pure effectiveness. That armor looks nice in itself, so perhaps he likes the aesthetics of it.
  
  However for your question, Darkboy, looking at the wiki...it looks like it's pretty straight forward. You're essentially going to choose between an artisan and a fixed upgrade.

  You already get enough defense from masteries and strength. You're gonna be at a point where elite mobs will be hitting one on you, so you really shouldn't need more defense. You'd be better off increasing damage, and if you're gonna increase damage through heavy armor, might as well use the one that actually gives you a boost in damage.
  
  Sure Royal Knight Armor gives you nice stats... but let's take my case as an example. If I were to use thames (which I almost never do, but sometimes do it just because) in elite missions, those mobs are hitting ones on me (maybe 20 on crit). The only time where def/prot wouldn't matter are the blinker beams and the dullahan axes, in which case Royal Knight Armor would be useless as well. Since I have enough defense already, what would I choose? An armor with no effect (besides ping which doesn't really matter thanks to masteries, as well as high defense) or boost in smash damage? I would choose the latter.
  
  If you are using Royal Knight Armor as fashion, I'm not stopping you from wearing it, but I wouldn't upgrade it so that you can sell it if you want (Since it is fashion).
  
  Looking at your gear, I'd highly recommend selling the armor since it goes for good money, and use that money to get some decent enchants as well as special upgrading/reforging. You really need a gear renewal in my opinion.

  Royal Knight Armor is better than Thames Plate Armor hands down no contest.
  
  Because you get the massive defense from RKA.
  What do you get from Thames Plate Armor? Nothing.
  Thames Plate Set is a different story. And i know i will not enchant and reforge an entire new armor set, since i have Nuadha Gaunts, Tengu boots, and a Tengu hat all r1 reforged and enchanted.

  I'd rather not assume that everyone has access to pons, more specifically the fashion slot key. It is not so far fetched an assumption as you might think. It isn't/wasn't uncommon for people to upgrade/enchant their combat equipment on clothes that they deem appealing.

  It's also an assumption that Heavy Armor users are Melee/Lance.
  Heavy Armor is also suitable for Magic/Alch/Guns. And somewhat viable for Puppet/Fighter.
  
  If anything, I'd say trendy battle gear is less assuming.

  For example, 'Smash Enhancements' increase the damage of Smash by 15%. How is it calculate in the final damage of smash?
  
  1. Did it add to the base damage of smash and final damage of smash will be 515% at rank 1 human?
  
  2. Did it multiplier the base damage of smash and final damage of smash will be 575% at rank 1 human?

  It's the latter, otherwise Thames would be useless. And like Equivalent said, RK armor is much better by the armor itself. However, if I were to choose between RK set and Thames set, I'd go Thames all the way. And that's what I was referring to, Thames set. Much cheaper to get the set itself than single piece of RK armor.
  
  And yes, the repair cost is much cheaper, but Thames is still manageable. Not to mention the both armors will have uber durability anyways.

  You don't even need to worry about defense or prot if your using heavy armor itself.... The masteries are so fking broken you dont even need to worry about small amounts of defense and prot from upgrades or what type you use. For instance, I decided to mess around on my giant alt and ranked up shield mastery and heavy armor mastery while wearing thames. My alt has like 200 str, and yet ended up with 40 prot and 120 or so defense from the armor and masteries alone. That alone would reduce most of the dmg dealt to me to almost ones, or at least the content that my alt would be running (its a lvl 2k elite hero btw) so its not important at all to even worry about upgrades on armors. If you want to waste upgrades on RK armor for some (honestly unnoticeable) defense then by all means go ahead, but in the end thames will be better in the long run because no matter wat u do in mabi, you will smash at least once. RK armor looks nice tho, so it might be a good idea to hold onto it for aesthetic purposes but I wouldnt upgrade and personalize it because you'll always want the ability of resale value without having to deal with unlock pots (this is assuming you dont buy nx).

  For Alch/Magic, it saves you from being knocked back and losing charges. For everybody, it's an additional 50% damage reduction which also works on otherwise non-mitigatable damage (like Black Dragon breath attacks), meanwhile allowing you to counter instantly.
  
  Arrows/Magnum for one do massive amounts of damage even with high defenses and Heavy Armor on, so Ranged PD is very useful when it activates.

  Meh, honestly if your alch you should be using cressida. If your mage you should probably be using hebona (if you can afford RK armor you can afford hebona robe), if ur range you should be using bohemian, if ur fighter u should be using light armor, if ur puppets u should use anything but heavy armor (probably light armor as well), and dual gun is well thats up in the air to w/e u feel like. Ofc u can use the argument, "u should do w/e u want" but honestly ur only hurting urself if u are using heavy armor for anything besides melee and i suppose magic (even tho u still should be using hebona for the firebolt effect). In the end if he wants to "tank" then do w/e u feel like, but I wouldn't use such an expensive armor set when u can get something like mythril lance heavy armor or other things for a fraction of the cost.
