new puppeter help?

  So hi all im a new puppeter on mabi and i was wondering what stats/skills i should rank up i just started playing last night and have no clue what do do lol any help is much appreciated

  If you started playing last night, I highly recommend you switch to warrior/archer. Puppetry isn't exactly the best talent to start the game with.

  Puppets only start dealing close to impressive damage if you have the strength and dexterity to back it up. Majority of both stats are not from puppetry. You're better off ranking warrior and archer, then getting into puppetry.
  
  If you only rank puppet, you'll find that your damage is pretty lulzbad compared to other classes.
  
  I'm not saying you have to start out with warrior or archer, but if you actually wanna see yourself being useful to your party mates in missions and not die as much, puppetry isn't the answer.

  Consider it something to work towards. Sure, you can start off as puppeteer, but you won't be dealing high enough damage to be valuable in a run. Not to mention you won't develop the basic skills needed not to die every room. Puppets are a secondary talent meaning they should be ranked after you've already mastered another talent (preferably warrior/archer since puppet damage is based off strength and dexterity).

  Honestly if you just started and don't want to spend hours grinding life skills I'd suggest going warrior. If you like grinding for dat pixel power you can go ahead and try range, just be warned I'm an archer and didn't even start ranking my ranged skills until around level 500 (doing life skills first). Some people call me insane but your damage will be really bad without dex to back it up, and even then it will be really bad without any reforges/enchants on your equips. Do keep in mind archery is probably the if not one of the best end game talents. If that catches your attention and you really want to work towards it go for archer... I'm just over level 1000 and barely am starting to do noticeable damage.

  First of all, which race are you? If you're a giant, you have no such thing called range.
  If you're an elf, I'd start out with archer, although I could still see starting out as warrior working with the right set up.
  If you're a human, I'd recommend warrior. Why? Humans are able to dual wield (which gives an advantage early game), and early-mid game melee is still stronger in range in humans in my opinion. Not to mention that you have access to double focused beam swords, which is an instant 360 damage bonus (it's a huge number for beginners).
  If you think range "seems fun", reconsider it. Yes, it is fun, and useful. However, when you start it, expect lots and lots of grinding and practice. You have to time your shots right (thing called SoG which takes lots and lots of practice, and you still won't be perfect at it), as well as life skills. Range is an end-game class, not early game. Do some research in wiki and forums, then it should give you more idea about how to raise your character.

  Mabinogi is the sort of game that requires a lot of time (and possibly money) to be good at. If you're planning on doing Puppetry you might want to do some Life Skills on the side, this is especially important when it comes to the Refining skill though.
  
  It's better to do refining earlier than later because of the fact that at higher ranks (skills go from F>A then from A>9>all the way to 1) it'll actually require you to fail at refining certain ores for training experience points which can be pretty difficult if you have higher dex...

  To put it simply, without the max damage to support it even puppetry can be lackluster.
  
  A simple example (ignoring the gain in dex/str from rank 1 puppetry skills on both characters):

  Now say she uses rank 1 Crisis then rank 1 Act 4
  
  277.9 * 2 = 555.8 damage

  277.9 * 3 = 833.7 damage
  
  = 1389.5 damage total
  
  Now lets compare this to Slurp (using the same gear for him as the alt, I don't actually have puppetry ranked yet so my stats are not buffed from puppetry skills):

  If you were to compare the first character with a beginner warrior with focused beam swords, you'd find that the warrior will do more (maybe not in burst, but overtime for sure). Reason why I'd recommend warrior is because those beam swords are dirt cheap now.

  You should go puppetry if you like it. Yes, it may not measure up to beam swords, but in return you get a skill set with cheap repairs (~a tenth as much as focused rainbows) and some good aoes, aggro control with switching puppets.

Add to that the 100 or so you can get from the stats from the puppet skills, talents, and easy enchants and you'll be looking at 2k climatics, 5k crits with very little effort. After or at the same time, you can rank the basic melee skills using your contol bar for more str and hp.
  
  Most importantly, mabi is a game. You should have fun and do what you like. It's no good going warrior if it causes you to not enjoy the game.

  278 max is with every puppetry skill rank 1. At that point he won't be gaining much more and I doubt a beginner will be focusing on getting max damage enchants, but I might be wrong. Another point ironwoman raised is that a warrior with the same stats but with rank 1 combat skills instead would be hitting more.
  
  And you're right Mabi is a game and is meant to be played for fun and be enjoyed but nobody has fun when they can't kill anything and are dying from every mob. I don't expect a beginner to be able to control two characters (a good puppeteer should be able to control their character and the puppet simultaneously) when they haven't even learned to control one character.
