  I know what you mean. But until I find a better way to make money in game, I won't buy a lance. I honestly thought they were shit when they first came out because I couldn't attack close range and the old combat system made the guy slide forward after normal attack combo. I got beams later on before their value became crap. Selling them won't get me much money anymore so right now I'm just gonna stick with my beams until I get enough money to buy a nice pre-upgrade, enchanted, and reforged lance.
  
  On topic: I hate the rafting positioning glitch thingy. After I fully charge thunder on the right side of the raft I always seem to teleport out of range.

  1) This is honestly just lazy imo, which is what I consider anyone that uses beams.
  2) This is more detrimental then helpful. You want slower att speed for longer stuns so you can smash in the middle of a combo.
  3) PvP.... Enough said >.>
  4) You can just use an HLC and get way better damage than using beams and still be able to load defense.
  5) Honestly lances will be better even without special upgrading, however thats just rng but with the gacha we had just spitting out upgrade stones it shouldn't be that bad to at least try for something like R3. Enchanting isn't that big a deal honestly. Reforges aside, lance damage will still beat beam dmg.
  6) This seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy: "My luck is so bad I won't get any of the enchants anyways, so why try?" Just keep trying its not really that hard, and honestly lance enchants are pretty easy to find. Again just keep trying, think of it as a long term project.
  7) Simple fix, trash the beams and upgrade some battles so you wont be paying stupid repair fees. Then when you save up enough get a good lance or 2 and try to get them to R5. Again think of it as a long term goal.
  
  As I said before, I find people who use beams are just too lazy to actually try and make a better weapon (which isn't even that hard honestly). Put the effort forth and you will be rewarded.

  I had beam swords once and it was awful, decided to try them out for higher non crit damage and all i got was profit from reselling them. My shitty r5 lion hunter's spike falcatas (non elemental) were beating them on crit damage and the non crit damage difference was close to none.

  That being said, I can tell you this: my unreforged r6 battles can out damage someone dual wielding ele 2 beam swords. Not like anyone who uses beam swords uses those reforge anymore.
  
  Beam sword is meant for early game damage... meaning it will fall behind starting mid game. Very inefficient weapon.

  Do the lances just deal more critical damage or non-crit damage?
  My critical is low anyways (90~100%) so I'd probably have to gain more crit before I do lances.

  Lances make it so your critical doesn't need to be as high, piercing goes through mobs protection/defense allowing you to do good damage on pretty much all content.
