  From what I got from the story the person didn't mean to drop the item, but did so accidentally due to lag/whatever. And if someone stole it, just how the fuck are they not at fault? Even if one were to base it on a set of "rules" that if an item is dropped it no longer belongs to the person who dropped it, that is still a pretty dumb and narrow way to look at things. It'll only cause trouble.
  
  Anyhow, not to say the person who dropped it shouldn't have been more careful, but ever taking anything from anyone without their consent is truly not right. And that's pretty obvious too.

  Doubtful, since then Player Killers wouldn't have happened unless with the permission of a higher power/whoever created said game. It was something intended to happen.

Whether giving the item back to previous owner or keeping it is up to the new owner's choice and you're in no position to judge or badmouth the new owner about his/her choice.   You're missing the point. Or simply have a narrow view about the whole thing.
  
  Either way, as I have stated, taking something from someone without their consent can be viewed the same as stealing. Sure I understand it's not how it works here, thus why I pointed out it was my personal opinion on the whole thing. I do agree that, on a complete "by the book" way that would indeed be the correct answer, that technically it wouldn't be stealing, but fuck being so stupidly closed minded about the whole thing to just let something of that nature slide.
  
  But I acknowledge thats just me who in these situations care less about "rules" than my own sense of right and wrong. I'd still blame both whoever took the item and the person who dropped it for being careless.
