Hello ! I'm new to this game and from many guides, I understood that if you are going for a melee character (or even an archer), you'll have to train WM 1st because otherwise your CP will get too high, and you will train very slowly. That I understand
But ISN'T IT THE EXACT SAME THING FOR ALL THE OTHER SKILLS ?
I checked briefly on mibi wiki, and most of the damaging skills require killing boss monsters for fast training. Let's say i'm starting my char as a Warrior, then i max WM and other melee skills on high rank thus raising my CP, will it not be a super pain to learn magic/range/anything afterward ???

Because it's annoying to train with high cp, other cp skills are easy.

Its because wm require multiple hits on cp base monsters for training, which can be quite difficult when the dmg muliplier is quite low compare to other cp required skills.
-cp can also be use as you get stronger to lower ur cp and help u train the slightly more annoying cp base skills that isnt wm.
Also, wm is more versatile skill that can fit in almost all skill set but other cp required skills lack the synergy wm has.

Ranking windmill to 1 was the first thing I did when I started playing this game. I use it a lot (Archery), it's a very nice skill. As for neglecting to rank it early, I was wondering the same thing as you as well. I decided to suck it up and grind it out due to every single experienced player who neglected to rank it early on complaining about how difficult it is to rank later.
P.S.
If you are rich/aren't but intend to spend NX on the game, there ARE windmill training potions though.

"Back in the day" it was the only effective means to control monster aggression because the skill used to be the only area of effect skill that did so. Now you don't need to do that so it doesn't matter when you rank it. If you have the resolve, it'll happen high cp or not lol.
tl dr; do it when you want.

I never bothered ranking wm on this character nor do I plan on it, but the extra will is nice. If you're not an elf I'd recommend ranking it, but I personally have never found myself in a situation where I wish I had the increased range/damage.
Good thing about wm though is that it can be used with any weapon and loads instantly, can be a nifty little skill.

Nifty but supplementary is what I would describe it as in the case of elves, yep.

The practical reason is back in the days, TNN zombies were the only "boss" monster and spawn in abundance. Thus everyone wants to train wm before zombies becomes awful to them.
Now that there is OA, you don't have to rank windmill first.

WM used to be all you needed to play this game, and it used to be a pain to control CP. So that's why all the old guides say that.

^this. With sms its not bad even with higher cp. I wouldn't worry about it too much

Nope, because not every skill has CP training requirements.

Also not every skill has steep requirements like windmill.
There are some skills that will ask you to kill a boss level or awful level enemy like a few hundred times.
But windmill requires you to kill thousands of awful or boss level enemies...

Not necesssarily.
Go to the "Skills with CP-based Training Requirement" and see the bolded ones. You don't have to rank these absolutely.
For example, you wouldn't be ranking stomp and alchemy mastery at the same time. If there is one thing you should know about Mabinogi, focus on one skill set. How you raise your character is your choice, but that's what I want to say. If you were ranking the two skills I mentioned at the same time, you'd be essentially wasting your time.
An example is me. I have windmill and lance charge at rank 1. Granted, windmill was a bit harder since that was my first rank 1 skill, and that was before all the updates made it easy. Everything else was a breeze. Especially magic mastery. All I did was finish off some things with bolts, and it was easy rank 5.
In short, like others said, don't worry about it. Having higher cp doesn't mean as much as it did before for ranking skills.
However, there is one skills that I want you to think about. It's called enthralling performance, and as the wiki states:
Quote from Wiki:
Rank 2 requires "Bewilder a boss-level monster." in order to rank up.
This method becomes impossible to train if the user's Combat Power is above 1,467.
But then there is an abundance of -cp gear, as well as training seals.
