  I look at the ridiculous costs of material that isnt torrented. Alot of people dont want to pay 100-200$ for an essential part of their computer when they put a lot of money into it already (operating system). Or paying like 1-2$ for a song when you normally like to have well over 100 making it so your paying 100-200$ just to listen to music. I feel like alot of the companies that market these things pushed people to torrent with ridiculous prices.

  For computer components, it does make sense. ARM processors in smartphones, as an example. The cost to manufacture a NVIDIA Tegra 4 is around $25 per processor in costs to the manufacturer, for an example. A DVD burner requires a LASER, which most commonly use a synthetically created sapphire or an inert gas which has to be carefully sealed in a container in a cleanroom if not a vacuum. Power supplies require dozens of capacitors and a half-dozen or so printed circuit boards, as well as to maintain power delivery standards for modern PCs, they have to have processors on-board as well. Upper end heatsinks have tight tolerances for fin stacking. Fans in PC's go through significant amounts of RND, and the more exotic (and high quality) bearing technologies often utilize rare or materials or processors on-fan, if not both. Cases have PCB's and come with said types of fans quite often.

  I should have worded it better. My point was that the cost of things that are legit but can be torrented is pretty high honestly. Like an operating system is pretty expensive and its something that people are forced to buy no matter wat. Unless they torrent it ofc lol.

  Or you could take advantage of Microsoft's own loophole they made with Windows 7 in releasing both the OS data and OEM unlocker to the general public which can be used together. So long as you don't sell a PC while doing this without licencing from Microsoft and only use this method for personal use, it's legal last I checked.
  
  Also, outside of Mac OSX and Windows, there are plenty of free operating systems based off Linux. Like Unbuntu and Android, for a couple of examples. (seriously, if you're worried about having compatible software, grab an x86 compatible version of Android and have fun. Or just make an ARM based PC and stick regular Android 4.4 on it. [which would be cheaper anyhow and compatible with more or less every Android game out there, if not as powerful hardware wise as many x86 based machines.])

  The safer route is to go with mac or windows, which is why people will go for torrenting it since its about the same amount of effort as getting the other OS's. The benefits outweigh the risks since you can basically get the highest level of a commonly used OS that is compatible with most everything, and u have maybe a .0000001% chance of actually getting in trouble for it. Sure there are ways to get around it, but its just easier to torrent it (not only that alot of people dont know how to go about getting those other OS's and would rather take the safer route).
