Well, I've done both. I'd say Alchemy has far more advantages and is actually quite funner in my opinion..
But Magic is probably and always will be op.

You won't get a scratch if you know what you're doing with alchemy but even the best mages won't be able to avoid a couple hits, assuming no pets that is.
On the other hand, you could be implying godly damage. With magic there'll never a monster standing while alchemy takes much longer to accomplish the same effect.

All of the skill sets are more or less all able to plow through mobs like its dynasty warriors. You pick a skillset based on which you find the most fun in mabi. You are probably going to do all of them sooner or later. Pick whats fun to you, not whats considered the "best".

I wouldn't underestimate the damage output of alchemy. Especially with the vate update. A good alchemist with end-game stats and gear is deadly.
However, while alchemy is competent in damage, it can't compete with magic in damage.
Honestly, I'd just say go with whatever skillset you think is more fun to use. Alchemy is more defensive and has many uses, but magic just does insane damage.

Seriously now with the Guard Cylinder there's no reason why you have to choose one over the other. I'd do both as both have their own strengths and weaknesses.
You can Cast magic and Alchemy without weapon swapping so go ahead and fire up both :D (Unless you are using spamming Hailstorm or firing off your nuke)

Those mages are things of the past.
The future lies into Alchemy. We are the true ones.
The Kingdom of Ailech has recognize us and dismiss the old order of mages and replaced it with the new and improved Royal Alchemy.
Alchemy is growing and soon we will make lives better than those mages who only know of old rituals.
Come join us, come be part of us.

Do not the succubus voice of the long defunct mages play melodies in your ear. Be strong and steadfast as a reliable, beautiful member of Alchemy.

Whoa, I must have been away for longer than I thought. What's this about magic being OP now?
It used to be shit tier only a couple months ago.

well, alch seems more fun. and the damage of my fried's flameburst is often almost on par with my magic (and faster especially, considering 3 minutes snapcast vs 10 seconds chain cylinder).
with the new summons, hydra and AI golem, I think alch is better now.
...or maybe my magic isn't good enough.. either way, I need to fix my resolution so I'm not swayed by those 'fake' mages though...
wish I could use staff with guard cylinder.. *sigh*

Magic Alchemist.
Personally I think alchemy is easier to get into because you don't need thousands of book pages for the skills you will use. >.< And not having to deal with low mana/int much.

Magic, of course. Alchemy needs a lot of specialization. While you could have both with a guard cylinder and a wand, you won't be pulling high numbers like dedicated alchemists, who have a bunch of types of cylinders for all sorts of purposes. As a mage, you only really need a hermit staff, and maybe a savage ice wand to really make use of blaze. Magic is simpler.

The difference really, is that Alchemy is really strong early, not as much end. You tend to have to buy alot of crystals for alchemy, and you can eat through stamina if your not careful.
Magic is strong, however unless you got alot of time to prepare or aquire MP Potions, you might tend to be useless until you get enough rengenerated back if you rank Meditation ASAP.
in my opinion, im biased so i say alchemy.
