PvP never meant something in this game if you wanted to go all-out, honestly.
But if you're dueling a friend or just someone you want to have a respectful duel with, you can usually figure out what's frowned upon and what's not.

anyone who's ever "cheated" in a game before should know how unfun it is. sure, you can "use all of your arsenal", make it extremely difficult for the other person to win, and get your +1 pvp win for the day (yay!!!!!). but at the end of the day, using an unbelievably cheap tactic like frozen blast and dischording your enemy to death is extremely boring. restricting yourself from that sorta crap makes things more interesting. why not try challenging yourself?
FIRST OF ALLL.
dischord, guns, and puppet skills weren't disallowed in the day for obvious reasons (theydidntexistyet). it's not the pvpers fault nexon keeps coming out with skills that don't mix well with PVP.
Ice Spear, Frozen Blast, MS and MM have always been disallowed as far as i know
My motto is, once someone pulls out the cheap shit, i freeze them and give them a one minute timeout while i walk away.
I don't pvp unless it's for fun, and if it's some pvp nib, i stay away from the cheap stuff until i get hit by anything that locks me in a combo (not really, only thing that ends up locking me is ice spear, hence magical clothing.)

PVP rules:
Win, if not, you lose

I guess it's more easily said that it's okay to use any skill at your hands if you're not the one subject to said skills.
However, I completely agree with Kenero's post:
Quote from Kenero;1193940:
If you want to discuss rules, you talk to the person you are dueling before you start about skills that are acceptable.
That's it.
And if he decides to screw you over, then don't duel with them a second time, especially for "revenge".
Again, I feel that respect is the most important thing you can give another person.
But yeah, unless it's not mutually understood that there are certain rules you should play by, I guess there aren't really any rules until discussed, and you are free to use all skills available to you.

there will be always something to put into rules, since people will always argue against those skills that cannot handle, and even if you put those rules into account, people will be able to break them anytime as they wish, since that's not part of the game, unless we get a Rule set made for pvp.
now the common "rules" are like:
-no mana shield
-no frozen blast
-no IS
-no FH (rare nowadays thanks to insta counter, yet many ppl cant counter it due to lag)
what else?

Honestly policy. Agreed that there will be people willing to break rules just to get that one PvP win, but it's up to the individual whether or not they accept the duel. (Thus, consequences follow.)
Duels ; ~ ; I can see why so many people are saying you should just steer clear of them.

It's more understandable when you see the majority of the people who pvp.
There are exceptions, but those who aren't are probably worse of the Mabinogi population (especially Alexina)
I can honestly see pvping just to mess around with your friends, but I don't see it as something to take it seriously.

If you lag too bad to counter FH, you shouldnt be seriously dueling anyway.

you should never be seriously dueling, period. Just PVP for fun

No FH is a really ancient rule..even with lag you can still counter it. No one uses FH anymore besides getting close enough to use smash or wm. I still got one person freaking out at me about using it, though. Come on, people, this isn't 2012.

Pretty much my thoughts.
It becomes pretty stupid when you can chunk out 1/3 of someone's hp with crit smash in 1%.

Tarlach has some very serious duelers.

Yep, and now there is none.
There's not a single dueler these days except for the odd one every now and then.
