I figured, well theres a couple of skills coming with master chef that give about 80 stam each so I'll definitely use those. and what's this about enchants? Can colin not recieve the same enchantments as thames? The main reasons I prefer Colin to thames is that the thames armor's equipment bonuses are random which for me usually makes it impossible to get a good roll (RNGs hate me I swear) plus Colin also has the advantage of auto-defense.
The current market of Alexina has thames pieces with decent rolls. Yes, colin could get the same enchants, but a set with more damage oriented gear (namely for smash and assault slash, although latter isn't really important) will make you one shot things much easier. And the thames pieces aren't more expensive either. My logic would be to go for the set with the same price that gives more skill damage. If DK set gave windmill enhancement like they did in KR server, I'd considered that too, but too bad that's not the case here.
Note that assault slash part of thames isn't that important, so you don't have to get 10/10 thames. I only have smash part activated.

wow... on this topic... does that mean the only way to get colin helmet is alchemy?

@Elfepride
Alchemy and Auctions
@ironwoman
I understand that and that would be great if I actually use smash ever, but most of my damage comes from Lance Charge, Windmill, and Chain skills. So my logic is to go with the armor with the aut-defense and the set bonuses I can actually make use of.
I just might take your idea about the dustin helmet though

Right now those are your main skills. Within 1k level, you will be using smash alot, especially as a Giant. Colin is only decent in your situation because you're using those skills alot. And by the way, if you're using lance, the biggest merit of lance is smash, not lance charge or windmill. So if you want to be a "true" lancer, smash is the way to go. Like it or not, you will be using smash alot pretty soon, might as well get prepared for that.

am i unusual because i want my giant to have colin just for its appearance? i just like how it looks and i want to go with that :D its like how i have the andras for my human and im going to get vampire hunter for my elf... i prefer to look nice even if it puts me at a disadvantage ^-^

@ironwoman
I use Lance for groups and fighter for single enemies. Whether that makes me a "True" lancer or not, I don't care. All I know is it works, very well. I dont like smash because if I'm going to leave myself open to attack a single enemy I might as well start a chain as it's much superior damage-wise.
@Elfepride
Heck yeah I love the way colin looks

Fighter gets damage quickly while lance needs more investment.
I'm pretty mid game lancer and my human smash already does more than many other dropkicks. In the later stages, smash actually starts doing about the same as chains, if not more, especially for Giants.

I dont know about that. my r7 Lance charge does a bit more damage than my r2 smash. I guess by the endgame if you could repeatedly smash an enemy you could output more damage to a single enemy than fighter would, but fighter skills are a lot more reliable, with the never-ending chains and the finicky nature of the lance's melee range. Plus fighting like that kinda defeats the purpose of using a lance which in my experience is extremely more effective in groups.

Lance charge also has lengthy cooldowns as do fighter skills. You don't even have to be end game to see the smash superiority over fighter. Right now you're at the early game stage, the stage where fighter gets the fastest growth and decays later on. For Giants, it's not hard to reach a point where single smash will out damage the chains completely. As you progress and do more missions, you'll see that fighter is actually less reliable, even for one shotting.

So basically only rank smash? all fighter skills are useless to their vast, yet unapparent inferiority. wish I had known that sooner :/

No, rank str skills. Reason fighter falls behind is because you'll get much less will than str. Not to mention will to damage ratio is lower.
-
Taizo wrote on 2014-02-05 02:04
Or I could rank will skills, it makes sense that the ratio is lower because the skills are faster. Smash is good once in a while when you can pull it off fighting a group but I'm not going to abandon all my skills to just mindlessly smash things as my only form of combat, that's boring. I dont care if it does more damage, if I'm not enjoying myself then what's the point?

If he finds that his character build and play style would benefit more from colin set now, get the set. Then maybe if hes damage thirsty later on, like you said, thames sets are relatively cheap to create. Play styles and needs evolve along with your character. I remember using a crit set for the longest time, then I switched to damage. Besides, even if he gets sick of the colins effect and prefers thames/ whatever, it looks pretty kickass, so you could just buy style tab and rock the set.

Guys. Simple solution.
Colin set for fashion purposes using style tab.
Thames set for actual gear.
C'mon. Get both.

Taizo wrote on 2014-02-05 04:16
Nah I like the Colin better for actual gear, for reasons I've already said. I might get thames someday if it's ever relevant to my play-style but I don't plan on it as of yet.
