Any appropriate anime shows?

  The Japanese have a different standard of what's age appropriate for ages, so even Doraemon and Ghibli Films have some things that probably wouldn't fly in the same demographic elsewhere. If you're looking for kids shows. Otherwise I can't see why you'd ask for "appropriate" shows.
  
  Honestly your best bet is older shows like Tetsuwan Atom and Tetsujin-28. Maybe Cyborg 009 but even that has some darker undertones. I'm not even saying this as a mecha fan, the older stuff is certainly more appropriate for younger audiences. For modern stuff probably something like Pretty Cure. You've got to be more specific in what kind of shows you want because anime is really broad in genres.

  ...You haven't watched very much of SAO have you? It's loaded with innuendo, ecchi, and mature content. Hell after a few episodes he has a whole harem, and then there's the tentacle episode.

  Depends on your definition I suppose, and Mawaru Penguindrum is one of my all-time favorites, but I would probably say that it contains some mature content. And by probably, I mean definitely, though it's mostly more alluded to than actually visually on screen. There are of course some on screen instances too, though no sex or anything like that.

  - Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu(this one does have sometimes innuendo involving his mother, though...)

  - Azumanga Daioh (has a subtly perverted stalker teacher played for gags, but doesn't show anything ecchi.)
  
  What about Shoujo, Otome, or Shounen-ai? I know a lot of those:
  - Kamigami no Asobi (otome/reverse harem, but not ecchi. Has close-up almost-kiss scenes.)
  - Pandora Hearts (maybe a little dark... some fighting, but against monsters.)
  - Lady Jewelpet (innocent magical girl show with princess-like girls, and no sexualization.)
  - Isshukan Friends (new, but haven't seen any fighting or violence. Technically shounen, but feels very shoujo.)
  - Ouran High School Host Club (otome/reverse harem, no real ecchi, but some non-sexual male twincest fanservice.)
  - Uta no Prince-sama (otome/reverse harem, very cheesy/fabulous/sparkly/musical, no ecchi.)
  - Starry Sky (otome/reverse harem, no ecchi at all, but maybe boring if you don't like the characters since there's no plot.)
  - Amnesia (otome/reverse harem, has a fire scene and two crazy/possessive characters, but it's not really violent.)
  - Arcana Famiglia (otome/reverse harem, has few weapons/fights, but nothing really violent or bloody.)
  - Gravitation (shounen-ai, it's boy on boy romance, but it's not ecchi.)
  - Loveless (shounen-ai, boy on boy romance, no ecchi, but is a kid-adult relationship.)
  - Inu x Boku SS (supernatural romance, technically shounen, but has a very shoujo feel. no ecchi, but some fanservice aimed to males.)
  
  As for Shounen, action, adventure, fantasy... there might be some that aren't too bloody, but do have action involving weapons.
  I might consider these PG-13ish, since they do have fights, but aren't too dark, violent, rare/no deaths, or gorey(but might have a little blood), and made to be appropriate for Japanese kids/preteens:
  - Katekyo Hitman Reborn(most blood in the manga is edited out. Wounds aren't detailed. Cigarettes from manga are removed.)
  - Tegami Bachi(there's guns, but they are "magical", and they fight mecha bugs. Little bit of gag innuendo involving loli-like girl.)
  - Kino's Journey(has a gun, but doesn't shoot people... but it might have some mildly dark themes about human life/psychology.)
  - .Hack// series (has fighting, but no blood, since it's a game-world. Deals with comas, though.)
  - Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii (still new so can't guarantee it, but so far it doesn't seem violent, except an assassination attempt.)
  - Escha and Logy no Atelier (also new and can't guarantee, but seems innocent so far.)
  - Free! (if you don't mind seeing topless male swimmers. There's no ecchi, but some camera-based fanservice of male chests.)
  - Tsuritama (slice of life anime about fishing. no ecchi.)
  - Summer Wars (movie, has virtual fighting but no blood. no ecchi.)
  - Pokemon (fighting/sparring without blood or death. no ecchi.)
  - Gokusen (yakuza teacher who preaches anti-violence at delinquent students. Has scenes of people beating each other up, but no gore/death.)
