So I saw someone commenting in
MMOBomb.
there is a huge revamp coming up, they are changing base gaming engines
Pleione Engine into Sahara Engine..but it will be on the KR servers first to do the bug testing, then the other servers will get the upgrade so no set date on the improvement.
And I was wondering, is this true, or just baseless rumor?

I'm inclined to believe that it's a baseless rumor, Mabinogi already uses the Sahara Engine, the only difference being that Pleione is more for the client itself and Sahara is being used for the server. (I think)

Yea, Sahara is the name of the engine the server is running on. One of those situations where you take a truth and change it into a lie to make it sound true, most likely.

Probably not. The only other time I remember hearing this is when someone made a post on the forums (zaro I think). Outside of that I haven't heard about it and no one has mentioned it or anything...
I would imagine that if we were getting a change like this it would be a topic of discussion.

Would be nice to get an engine change and get mabi out of the past, but it's not going to happen.
-

Well nexon changing an engine is foreseeable. But anywhere you see it saying Plieone is changing into Sahara, you already know its complete bullshit. Sahara has already been used, since the game's inception.

That's what i've been asking myself. But i'm sure that the Mabinogi Engine is going to be changed in Years. Who Knows? :P

whats wrong with current engine ?
wouldnt they have to rebuild the entire game to write it on a new engine ?
or would that have pleione running in the background and have graphics running on a new engine like Fable anniversary

Most likely you would have to change all your scripts to match the engines references. Which is basically equal to having to redo it all. The only case I could think of is if the engines are related in some way and all the references still work in which case you could probably move it to another engine.

It would be the other way around if anything, the engine change discussion is not in terms of graphics, plieone would still be running in the background as graphics only (if possible) or the new engine would update to use plieone mesh groups. The main issue with Mabi's engine is how it organizes and distributes data.

Does not support most advanced graphics cards features that a more modern client can/does, does not support multiple CPUs, or even multiple cores in a single CPU, does not utilize RAM efficiently, even if the system it's running on has 8+ gigs, it has several rendering/buffering issues related to text overlays...
It's a mess. It could really do with a modernization. It's ahead of what MapleStory is doing/using, or was last I looked, but only by a small margin.

To put into perspective how bad mabi's engine is,
my PC has trouble with text and I even lag a bit at dragon raids when I first arrive at the area. The only place I actually seem to have an advantage thanks to my PC specs is loading tara faster than everyone I party with, so if I'm leading a mount train I have to wait ages for everyone to load... not much of an advantage when I think about it.

That piece of crap really shouldn't use that much RAM. If it actually put it to good use to cache everything to make loading seamless and there was no stuttering, I'd be all for it (I have 16GB in this box). But nope, it just gets wasted somehow through memory leaks or just plain terrible design.

It's ok. Maplestory is so bloated now, it takes a good minute or two to load now
