I don't know if it's really anyone's fault, unless they were abused or had some kind of trauma. I would think that there's uncontrollable mental disorder/illness involved, because any healthy/sane child would not mix up fantasy and reality, or kill another.

Is it mental illness though? I did some ridiculous things when I was their age (tried to run away from home and gather flowers to sell in order to make a living...etc) Yes their actions are incredibly dangerous, but all these actions are equally ridiculous. Just because my ridiculousness around that age hasn't gotten anyone murdered doesn't mean I saw the world and my responsibility better than these girls.

...How is trying to sell flowers for a living on the same level with plotting the murder of your friend for months based on the belief that a faceless demon in a three piece suit with tentacles for arms would murder you if you didn't?

They are equally unrealistic, and the fact that I thought I could make a living by picking flowers just demonstrates how little I grasp consequences. These girls didn't think of jail and punishment when they plotted the murder, nor did they think how unrealistic slenderman really is. Yes the consequence is more dire in their case obviously but for someone who doesn't think of consequences, the severity really looses its value.

I do NOT think these girls should be tried as adults, children are like sponges that absorb everything around them, and without the proper guidance shit like this happens. Parenting is extremely important, I was desensitized to violence and gore at a young age because my parents didn't give a shit and allowed me to play violent video games. I wouldn't have liked it at the time, but I wish they would have been more strict about what I was and wasn't allowed to watch and do as a kid and maybe I wouldn't be so mentally fucked up right now.

Except that we know NOTHING about the parents OR how the girls were raised. For all we know they are the best parents to have ever existed and did everything perfectly right. Some kids end up fucked up no matter how hard you try to raise them right. You can't just assume this happened because the parents didn't raise them right. Hell, I was desensitized to both sex and violence by the time I was 10, but that didn't mean I thought it was ok to go around raping and murdering random strangers.

I honestly don't think they should be tried as adults. They are 12 years old for christ sake and have mental issues, in addition to their minds not being fully developed so they probably didn't realize the full consequences of what they were doing.
Read more articles, they KNEW what they did was wrong, part of them felt happy when they did it.

I read local news papers, the circumstances of the case and how they went about it, made it so their names were released publicly and their interviews public. They flat out said they felt happiness and regret at the same time. "One half was happy and one half felt regret that we were going to take a life" (paraphrased to the best of my knowledge)
Then you will realize why political figures are going to resist changing it to a juvenile court.
