So, I've been cruising along G3 for a while, found it rather simple, a lot of dungeon runs, no big deal. The infiltration quest was irritating, but was by no means hard, and was perfectly doable if one had the right balance of patience and possibly some mad timing skills for the orbs. Then the final quest came along, I brought together a few friends, and we went into the dungeon expecting to be exceptionally awesome and slaying a dragon.
And then, in that moment, the difficulty was spiked harder than punch at the party of a mischeivous alcoholic.
I understand that it's the final dungeon and all, but dear LORD, that final dungeon was a kick straight in the teeth, the groin, and everywhere at once. Floors are long and filled with grueling amounts of rooms, spawns comprise of what are considered BOSS ENEMIES in every dungeon so far in a cramped space that completely screws over the efforts of any long-range attackers if they're being aggro'd, you're only allowed to bring two other people, no Soul Stones are allowed, a boss with fireballs that take up half the arena, and if you die, you have to start it all over again.
Needless to say, we didn't beat the dungeon.
Was anyone else taken aback at how drastically difficult the dungeon was compared to the challenges endured thus far? And, perhaps most importantly, what specific advice might you all have for making it through this excruciating ordeal?
Note: To clarify, this is more of a "relate your experience" thread, not so much of a "halp pls" thread...though, now that I look at it, it could go either way. Iunno, move it if you want.

I'm on Ruairi and fairly well-equipped to kick Baol's ugly teeth in. Hit me up if you need a hand. Baol Final is surprisingly hard, it's designed to be handled by three Paladins that are properly suited up and prepared for it, generally speaking.

This is why I think it was a bad move for them to nerf G3 Coil and Peacca but leave Boal unnerfed. Gave players a wrong sense of difficulty until the last moment in the generation. Back when I first started in 2008/2009 they made you do on floor of Peacca with reduced number of mobs than normal peacca and a black ship rat as the boss. That still wasn't as bad as Boal though I suppose...

I never got to that last dungeon pre-Genesis, but I can imagine how hard it must seem after all the currently-nerfed dungeons.
I think around total level 700 was when I was able to start soloing the monsters, although I'd still die very easily if there was multi-aggro. But yes, it's harder than it should be if they were going to nerf the rest of the Generations.
You should take up Fracture's offer though, seeing as you'll need that carry.

I have attempted to run this dungeon a few times; last time with over 120 def and enough power to one-shot heavy gargoyle and still failed hard. Honestly, I have no idea how would people finish it back in the day. Anyways, you should either find some OP players to carry you or just give up and skip to G9 when you hit 261 total level.

Oh hey, it's RRM.
My advice is "bring somebody strong".

As someone who managed to "clear it" very recently, I also was really surprised about the difficulty that skyrocketed during that final.
And I say I've "cleared it" because me and my friend had help of a lot stronger player than us.
Well, I did get knocked out, but only once (at boss). Unlike my friend, who cleared it a while ago, yet still had to be revived about 10 times or so in total :p
Can't imagine getting out alive from that place if it was just 2 of us...
So yeah... Since you said the previous dungeons were nerfed, now a newbie goes there completely unprepared for what's going to happen.

For the record, the total party was me (a mage, basically as squishy as they get), a battle alchemist with ridiculously amped up alchemy skills, and my significant other, who was the designated tank of the session. Only problem is, all three of us got knocmed out at once when lag hit us really hard, and we didn't have the foresight to have someone else who wasn't in the dungeon loaded up withAdvanced Phoenix Feathers. We went pretty well without our tank, and then the Argus came and we were screwed.

Oh well would ya look at that. Small world, I suppose.
Anyways, as stubbornly self-sufficient as I prefer to be, I'm probably going to have to bring in two of my hideously overleveled friends for the occasion. Question, though: one of the Gorgons in the dungeon dropped a Waxen Wing of the Goddess; will that zap me to Another World?

Waxen Wing of the Goddess
You mean
THIS? Never heard about it dropping from a mob so I don't know what does it do. If you are talking about regular
Wings of a Goddess though, they teleport you to last visited town or landmark (overwriting to the last place right away) so they're kinda useless, unless you want to exit a long dungeon early.

I was with a 2k and 3K player who helped me when I ran it the first time as a newbie, so I was lucky. Though it was boring since I barely had time to try to attack anything before it was already dead.
Second time was way more fun for me. It was on my elf alchemist, around level 250, didn't work on any other skills other than alchemy so my def was really bad too. But there was a veteran player with me and my friend who then was around level 300. She showed us a lot of tricks, tactics and ways to go about killing the enemies. It was pretty neat. We were able to clear quite a few rooms due to that without her help. xD
Needless to say we had our fair share of dying, but she was so strong that if we died, she killed all the enemies, then revived us.
So yeah like others suggested, bring someone strong and it can be a fun experience.

That sounded like my experience in g3. I'm suprised that it's still hard even with the combat revamp, def revamp, talents, etc. Back in the day it was truly painful. Most players were around the 200-300 total level range without the extra ap and stuff. The typical baol run took 3-4 hours if it succeeded. Furthermore, there was always 1 person that stayed behind a room with 20-30 party feathers while 2 ppl fought.
You have it easy now!
Back then:
1. Reforges didn't exist
2. AOE pets didn't exist
3. transformation required service and even then most ppl were paladin or white knight
4. Dual wielding didn't exist, most people used claymores (pros used ego 2h swords)
5. Best enchant was fox giant
6. Best armor was a smithed light melka
7. No mana shield, 1 argus smash or stomp is enough to bring you to deadly
8. No ridicolous music/food buffs (besides Nari the berry spammer)
Needless to say, I had to hire 2 of the strongest people on my server, pay them 150 k each + potions in order to finish my baol in 2008.

...But Eiry is glad the Mari server is/was a little kinder when it comes to people doing dungeons for free.

Agreed. In all the times I've come back except the latest time, with Ruairi being surprisingly uninhabited, I was always able to get help on the occasions I needed it. A friend that tagged along for my G1 helped me with my G3, along with the strongest person on the server. Neither asked for any recompense, although Hugo did ask that we let him fight the dragon solo. That same guy lent a hand when I wound up doing G11 Final literally right after hitting 1K (Hardmode missions are not balanced for lv1000 characters :x) and again asked for nothing in return.
People in Ruairi are cool. Just a shame there's so few of 'em now.
As I said Zwart, feel free to ping me if you need a hand. I'd enjoy the chance to have a rematch with Cromm, personally.
