I'm quite curious about why people buy dragons. I even made a thread about it.
I can't be the only one who hates pet spamming / spamming at the right time using incredible mad skills, and to me dragons seem too unusual, frightening and mysterious to own as pets. If I owned a dragon (just seeing other people owning dragons...) it'd break my immersion somewhat.
So if you don't want to play cheap and spam dragons / use them at the exact right time using amazing irreplicable skill and owning them is frankly just kind of weird, then what is it that makes them so attractive as pets?
I'm not getting at anyone, other than for perhaps those who would defend their ridiculously skill intensive summoning attacks, I am genuinely interested in how other people view them and why they are so popular. I was genuinely surprised at the community's hugely positive reaction to being able to buy them again, please give me your thoughts.
May I ask why they seem too frightening and mysterious? Technically speaking,
Dragons are stronger than the gods themselves, Morrighan, Cichol, Nuadha, Neamhain, Macha, etc. We're half-gods and everything, so they're more powerful than we are, but with the right weapons and tools, they can be killed. Not to mention the weaker dragons spawn daily that we can kill reasonably when you get much further in Mabi. Speaking of that, Reshichicken (Languhiris) noted us with the Brionac being a worthy challenge, and I'm damn sure he's one of the strongest dragons.
Part of the fascination IS because they're DRAGONS. Dragons may be overused in almost all forms of game media or fantasy/fiction genre, but even with all of their use, they're still immensely popular. Another reason why they had such hype in the past was because before the dragons came out, the only mount that we could attack from while mounted was the Tigers. Dragons have this feature, they can wm, their breath attack can do 2.4k at r1 without factoring protection and defense, and their flight speed at the time completely eclipsed every other form of flight. That, along with their long summon time, the aoe effect, and the inventory space basically made them the ultimate pet. In the past, people would have particular pets for combat, such as Mini Bears for their health and power, or Thorougbreds because they were the fastest land mount and you could use a Thoroughbred to lure monsters in when soloing Ciar Adv with wm many years ago (Best form of exp, this was before even HM dungeons.) We'd have pets for storage, such as Mimics and what not. The dragons can basically do everything. Some get them for the Aoe feature, Ice Dragons and Bones in particular.
Me, that's a bonus. I enjoy the fact that it's a dragon itself, along with the inventory space, combat ability, and flight.
