The suspense horror/dark fantasy story is set in Tokyo, which is haunted by mysterious "ghouls" who are devouring humans. People are gripped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight.

It's pretty decent so far...
Oh, and it's not for those with weak constitutions, haha.
Then again, the censorship ruins it for me, can't wait for the Blu Ray.

I caught up with the manga not to long ago and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the anime turns out. Hopefully it doesn't end up rushed like Black Bullet :S Also hoping that the censorship isn't as extreme as it was in episode 2, I thought something was wrong with the video source because it looked like a huge black smudge appeared on my screen out of nowhere for a few seconds, and the inverted colors during the fight scene was kind of wonky. Really enjoyed the first two episodes so far though :]

I'm fine with the censorship as long as it isn't...major...episode 1 had some horrid censorship, but it wasn't as bad as the start of episode 2 :c

If the censorship bothers you, you can probably just find videos of the fight scenes inverted. So far, I like the anime adaptation and the opening theme.

I like HS' description of this series:
Tokyo Ghoul – This seems to be hyped, but I know why: manchildren likes these type of zombie shows, and manchildren also like anime
Probably won't watch it.

Hmm?
It's not a zombie show...

It's more about a man turning half monster, sympathizing between being a part of two species, and struggling to balance as to what side to be on.

is there any difference between the manga and anime so far?
-
Chockeh wrote on 2014-07-12 21:24
I haven't watched the anime... Or anime in general for the past 2 years.

well i can tell you so far....episode 1 was him dating rize and getting her organ and then trying to tell himself he isn't a ghoul until he comes across another ghoul eating a human and gets offered some of the human. and then nishiki comes by and kills the other ghoul, trying to kill ken at the same time. luckily, touka comes along and beats off nishiki, and then tries to feed ken some of the meat. it cuts back to him at his house where there's a brown package on the table that he looks at. he then has a flashback to being at the cafe from earlier that touka works at and drinking coffee and receiving the little package. episode ends where he almost opens it when hide calls or leaves a message and then it ends.
that was episode 1

Sounds about right? I forget how early Ken comes into play.
