Seeing that my obsession with minecraft has rekindled yet again. I'm willing to try a minecraft server again. I need to guage people's interests on this.
Server will probably also have the following:
Witchcraft (Magical Based)
Archimedes Ships (Doesn't replace Thaumcraft modes of transport as those are faster. Plus, easier base moving)
Biomes O' Plenty (More variety in the landscape with more fun Thaumcraft aspects to play with)
JABBA (Cobblestone/Dirt Storage! Among other storage needs)
Of course that depends on what version thaumcraft's next update is for. Currently waiting on Thaumcraft to do another update to adjust warp before starting the server.
Anyways, I want to see if anyone is interested in joining, so far I have as Guarantees:
myself
Herro
Tropa
Teto

What kind of mods do you consider OP though?
Tinker's Construct?
Applied Energetics?
Ars Magica? (I assume this one is out of the question since it's a bit like Thaumcraft)
Among lesser mods, I suggest Microblocks and Chisel, those are nice for decorative purposes.

Only issue with Ars Magica is the fact that it updates like a snail. Thaumcraft 4.2 is already on Minecraft 1.7.10 while AR2 is all the way on 1.6.4 with a beta for 1.7.2. Completely unacceptable for keeping up to date with thaumcraft which is the main requirement I'm looking at.
Tinker's Construct...that one doesn't have Kami right? I may consider that add-on as long as it doesn't replace any existing Thaumcraft Wands/Wand caps or any of the Thaumcraft armor.
I want to ensure that Thaumcraft stuff stays being used and doesn't get replaced. Things that work along side it and add to it rather than replace is a key component I'm looking for.
As for Applied Energetics, never heard of it. The other thing I want to maintain is a magical/alchemic feel to the server which is why I'm looking at Magical based mods specifically. What does Applied Energetics entail exactly?

If you're looking for magic and alchemy then I guess AE isn't really fitting for your server, it's basically a mod designed to have a humongous storage using Redstone Flux energy and computer-like machines.
In that case, how about a simpler solution like JABBA?
Biomes-O-Plenty is also a very nice thing to have so you have more variations.

Id do this.
Main issue I have with packs is the fact that I don't have much control over what I can add. Plus I see Buildcraft in there. Auto no in my book. I want to stay the heck away from Tech mods.

I've worked with Biomes o Plenty in the past so as long as that's at 1.7.10 and is ready to bounce to 1.8 when Thaumcraft does, then I'll be happy to work with it again. What does JABBA entail exactly?
Nevermind, looked up JABBA, I'd be willing to add that. Cobblestone storage is always a problem for me.

JABBA basically allows you to create barrles, and dollies to move said barrels around and place them elsewhere.
The barrels allow you to put 64 stacks of one item in them, they're great for keeping items you have a lot of but don't want to throw away, like Cobblestones and Dirt.
They look like this:

(This barrel currently holds one stack of 64 ores + 18 ores.)

The other thing I want to avoid is stockpiling more mods. The more mods I add, the slower it is to update and I don't want to be stuck waiting. Thaumcraft updating takes priority for me above all else. Currently only doing Thaumcraft on single player. So I think I have my limit of mods I'm willing to take on so I thank you guys for your mod suggestions, but in the interest of speed. I'd like to instead switch focus into seeing who would be interested in joining the server based on the potential list of mods I have picked out for my server.

This mod pack has a lot of good ones in it and nothing is extremely stupidly overpowered

Issue is too many dependancies, slow to update. Better Dungeons I had nothing but issues with when I tried it last to screw that *jumps ship*
I want mods that are responsive and update like Thaumcraft. The faster a mod updates, the sooner I can keep up to date with the latest vanilla minecraft.

I'm interested, and would second the suggestion of the chisel mod if it works with whatever else you're planning.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1294901-chisel
If you aren't aware the mod adds a chisel to the game, which opens an interface you can use to change blocks to different textures. This will allow more creative and well designed buildings without any major changes to the game itself, it's purely aesthetic.
Also if you're using biomes o' plenty again don't forget to change those settings that we found last time, haha.
I assume Mystcraft is out because of how OP it is if you have the right pages. Lol.
Also.

Tinker's Construct isn't Thaumcraft related. It's that mod with the smeltery where you melt down ores and make casts and stuff to make tools so you can make tools out of cactus and bone and paper and such. I believe it also adds a few custom ores of its own. So it's a cool mod, but I'm not sure if it'd be too sciencey for a magic server.

If Chisel is 1.7.10 ready I'll give that one a go. I think I tried Tinkerer's Construct out once, wasn't sure I really liked it. I think I'll skip that one. Ya, mystcraft is more trouble than it's worth to be honest and I don't feel like managing ages. That mod gave me more problems on the previous server than I would have liked. As for the Biomes O' Plenty issue, I don't think that issue will be present this time due to core changes to vanilla.
However there is a forge issue in the latest forge for 1.7.10 that Thaumcraft is using in regards to biomes. More info on what the issue is here:
https://github.com/MinecraftForge/MinecraftForge/commit/4454d3f341a08f950c22cdfa449bef78c79a493d
One of the main things I"m looking at mod wise is 1.7.10 compatible mods only.
Anyways, I'll be glad to have you back Nith. I'll send you the deets once I see that Thaumcraft updates, hopefully with a forge version that doesn't have the issue. I'll probably generate the server several times before hand adjusting the settings as necessary.

Yeah, chisel is 1.7.10 ready. I think it already has 5-6 versions for 1.7.10 so I'd say they update it fairly often, just make sure you follow the link I posted, if you google it you'll probably get the one that hasn't been updated since 1.6.
As far as the link you posted goes, I don't know enough about programming to have any idea what that means. Lol.
There were a couple other mods I remember thinking would go good on the server, but I can't recall what they were at the moment.
Unfortunately I probably won't find a place as cool as last time to put my base, I mean that was just perfect. A ring of mountains with a lake in the middle, it was just asking for a house.

Tbh, I'd rather it stay at Biomes o' Plenty, and Thaum. Perhaps this "Witchcraft". Any more and it'll get too cumbersome.
