  No, this isn't an opinion. According to a new economic report published by Forbes it's undeniable fact. Obama has reduced the unemployment rate to 6.1%, its lowest since 2007 and it is expected to reach 5.4% or lower by the time he leaves the office, even lower than what Reagan managed to do. Over 200,000 jobs have been created every month for the past 6 months.

  For pure unemployment, he was. Unemployment was at 4.2% by the time he left office. Bush came in with the same 4.2% and it raised to 7.8% (And it was at 6.3% before 9/11 so you can't blame it all on terrorists), now Obama is getting it back down.
  
  However I'm pretty sure this looked at more than just unemployment when determining it. I know it said something about job creation, investments, and the stock market in addition to the lowering unemployment rate.

  Can't speak for the US but the more minimum wage increases the less incentive people have to do skills/education based jobs since entry level salaries v.s minimum wage gap gets smaller.
  
  When minimum wage gets increased here, normal salaries don't really change. Before I got my promotion a couple years ago my sister working at McDonalds was earning almost as much as me, after I spent years studying for my job. Not much motivation there.

Instead something needs to be done about the bridges preventing people from moving out of lower and middle class to upper-high class; namely the costs of healthcare and a college education.   Yeah, except the problem is the current minimum wage isn't enough to live off of in most areas of the country. Do these people just continue to starve and live off of government assistance while right wingers keep cutting government aid? What you speak of is nice and everything, but do we seem like we're even close to all of those changes? People need help now, not 10 years from now. $7.25 is not enough to live off of alone, and it's definitely not enough to raise a family off of.
  
  I was going to college briefly last year and had to drop out because working part time wasn't allowing me to feed myself. $450 for rent for a tiny bedroom with 9 other roommates and even when I was working full time after I had dropped out I couldn't afford to do anything fun because every single dime was counted so I could make it through the month.
  
  I want to go to school more than anything at the moment, but I can't because I still have to feed myself.
  Even if healthcare and college costs were cut in half, the cost of living is still too high for these people to have the free time to go to school.

  That's because it isn't supposed to be. Minimum wage is meant for jobs that skill-less teenagers take out of high school to get some money until they finish school and have the degree to get a real job. It's meant to support 1 person, not a family.
  
  A fry cook at McDonalds should not be paid the same as someone that spent thousands of dollars to go to college/trade school for years to get training/skills/knowledge to do a job.

  Because if you're not plain retarded, you'll see that burger flippin' doesn't come with a lot of career options or very exciting tasks or a lot of meaning behind it.
  
  The wages for German automobile workers are ridiculously high even for workers only standing at assembly lines, people still don't flock to VW and Mercedes in droves. And of course, how many burger flippers does McDonalds have use for and are going to bother employing? I imagine most of their stores are already well-staffed and have no use for 1-3 additional burger flippers. So those people will be forced to look for something else anyway.
  
  Don't get me wrong, I'm not a friend of a national standard minimum wage that doesn't take into account regional price niveau differences or even fluctuations because that's plain retarded,even ignoring whether a state-set minimum wage is a good thing or not. But the whole "if we pay more than the absolutely minimum no one will strive for more and the country will turn to shit" argument strikes me as quite laughable.

  You complain about the cost of living, yet you want the minimum wage to increase? Increasing the minimum wage would increase the cost of living.
  
  I don't know if you know this, but store managers can't just produce extra money to pay their workers without cutting something else (or raise the price of something else).
  
  Also, a person's wage is also determined by the supply and demand of a particular trade. There is a great deal of supply for unskilled McDonald cashier-cooks in the work force. It would make no sense to pay someone a lot when there are others who are desperate enough to work for less. There are some states where Fast Food employees want up to 15 dollars per hour!
  
  There is a lot more economics and accounting that goes through the store than just common thought of "corporate greed" is the reason why they don't raise minimal wages.
