  I actually like ascention but I can relate with the feeling..
  
  It took me 6 games to get all the icons and those were all wins and they were the only 6 games of it I've played.

  Soraka has a bit of a dead spot in the midgame, when the game is transitioning from laning to teamfights and pushing the inhibitors. For me its usually from level 12 to level 15.
  
  Early on she needs to be a full support, as her healing of her lane partner is a make or break as far as winning bottom lane goes.
  
  Usually once laning ends I start to build Soraka towards AP tank, which lets her become a decent mage in her own right while continuing to provide support in teamfights such as surpressing the biggest threats and healing the tanks so that they can continue to flatten the enemy line.
  
  Its just that transition from full support that is kinda iffy, and with many games ending before I can complete that changeover it would indeed give the impression of her being of limited use after laning.
  
  Even without the changeover being complete though, Soraka hanging back during a teamfight still makes a noticable difference.

  securing kills in lane is always pretty important, and you just can't do that very easily with soraka. your partner probably won't die, sure, but if the enemy team out sustains you, then what?
  you probably play casually, so it's fine and you're free to do whatever, but those who actually do ranked would be flamed and told to uninstall if they even thought about choosing raka supp. (Then again, she's being reworked anyway)

  Depends on the soraka too. I tend to play a rather pushy soraka, when healing isn't required I'll make use of her mage side and help push. Infuse to restrict enemy attacks is quite useful if done well, and starcall does stack if you can sustain the MP usage. Early game this isn't possible, but by level 5 or so I can indeed sustain it.
  
  I've heard of people using critical banana soraka builds, which are hilariously fun. Most of these don't support well though, where I try to stay more of an in between providing both support and offensive power.
