i'm curious and would love to see what everyone thinks it costs for...say...a family of 4 to eat for a month
this is going based on how much my family of 4 takes to eat for a month
i'll wait for everyone to give their opinions, i can't wait :D

Can't say for a family of 4.
For myself September was about 300$, that was with buying some good ingredients like shrimp and fish, and I also restocked lots of non-perishable stuff like spices and canned things that I don't buy on a regular basis, so on average it's a bit less than that.

In the US, a decent, healthy food plan for a family of 4 is around $720/mo. You go cheaper if cost is an issue.
For me, it's about what Osay listed. But that's without me paying any attention to prices (within reason), sales, coupons, or whatever.

I've been living off of ramen for the last month so a 12 pack is $3
I eat four a day, so it lasts about 3 days which is $.40 a day
so about $12 a month
This is because I've been without work and am currently looking for a job, shit sucks.

your math is a tad bit off.
if it's about $3 like you said for a 12 pack, then it actually only costs $0.25 per pack, which then means a dollar each day.
so it really costs you $30 a month to eat just this ramen
and some of you are right, our EBT is around $700 plus a teeny bit more. and it feeds 5 people now since my sister's boyfriend lives here now...

Sorry it's really late ><
While I was living in California we had a budget of $10 a day for food to feed both me and my boyfriend.

$700-900 CAD for one month on avg. 5 adults, one cat.
Purchases are often limited to what's on sale/ in the bargain bins due to price issues. This includes packed lunches for work. We managed to reduce the cost by taking up home canning again for juices and jams, as well as home gardening year-round. We're still on a really tight budget, though.
We only rarely eat out or order take-out.

yes, it's true not to always eat the ramen. it's always recommended to eat other things, but some people can't afford better alternatives.
if somebody only has $10 to spend on food a day, they have a limit of $3 a meal. so they have to decide what they can get and still have enough money for other days.

In my family my dad and mom usually eat themselves and let us (my 2 brothers, my sister, and I) chose what we want to eat. Generally we have oatmeal/pancakes for breakfast and coldcut sandwiches for lunch. For dinner we do pasta on Mondays, chili on Tuesdays, pizza on Wednesdays, chicken cutlet on Thursday, and Tacos on Friday. Sometimes we mix in a few different dishes but for the most part its those 5. Sat and Sun are usually leftovers or hamburgers/hot dogs. To do all that we go shopping once every two weeks for materials and it usually rounds out to be ~$250 a trip. So $625 for the month generally.
Of course that's if we made all our own food everyday for the year. Usually I'm at work and I eat out with my co workers and sometimes my siblings go out with their friends.

Does your family do the usual three meals a day?
When I lived with my family (also five people) we spent about $250-$350 a month on food. Probably 80% of that went into meat and dairy, we always grew our own tomatoes/squash/lettuce/beans/mushrooms/peppers/peas/herbs and spices. Now that I'm living with my girlfriend we spend... $200-$250 a month on food for the both of us.

I dont eat 3 meals a day. More like 2 and some snacking in between. I dont know what my food costs are personally, but my roommate eats more than me, that's for sure.
