For those of you wondering about the post patch close combat... here's a commentary, although it's in Korean.
As you can see, assault slash has an AoE effect, and same for charge. And you'll also see what the "bleeding" is.

As for my thoughts, I like where they're going, especially with Final Hit. That skill's been ignored and only ranked for stats, now with the attack speed buff, I'm interested to see if it can compete with wotg. Basically, this patch is to encourage more use of ignored weapons, particularly melee weapons other than lance, but I honestly don't think this patch is enough to encourage those weapons. Only time I can see it being useful is final hit.
Still waiting for archery aiming buff, or elven archery buff. Maybe they'll do that too.
[SPOILER="Extra patch notes"]Assault slash splash damage = 80%, 5m radius, and this only occurs when you're using a sword, blunt, or axe.
Charge damage: 150% -> 120% for humans/elves, 300% -> 240% for giants... BUT! It's not your bare-handed damage anymore, so that's a buff. Also, it will have the same AoE effect as assault slash using the same weapon types.
Giant Full swing's cool down is also reduced by 5 seconds.[/SPOILER]

-Is Charge/Assault Slash splash range weapon dependent like Smash or entirely fixed?
-Does Lance Charge do splash?

But elves get the short end of stick once again. :/ I would like to see them do something to make elves more viable for once beside Hide, Magnum Spam, and Hydra.

I like this director's ideas. It's good they're revisiting an old skill set. Like a few people above, I'm also interested in an archery aiming speed/elf archer buff, because I need a reason to go back to working on my elf.

Their IS MP cost is 17 at rank 1, which is the lowest of the three races. It doesn't need to be lowered further.

Still not nice enough. Let's face it, there is still no reason to use melee weapons other than lances even with these buffs, since lance will kill everything faster anyway. Only reason to use swords in that patch is because of final hit buff, and we don't even know if it's as good as wotg. They need way more than buffs to charge and assault slash with certain weapons.
Just remember that this is part of a series of updates. Meaning, there is potentially an update for elves as well.

While equipped with a sword, axe, or blunt weapon:
- Smash now has a chance (40% Elf, 50% Human, 60% Giant) to:
Swords: Cause bleeding damage equal to 20% of basic attack power every 5 seconds
Blunts: Silence Magic/Alchemy for 12 seconds
Axes: Reduce 9 defense and 3% protection for 16 seconds.
- Assault Slash and Charge now deal AOE damage equal to 80% in a 5m radius.
- Charge damage has been reduced (120% Human/Elf, 240% Giant) but it now factors in weapon damage.
- Stomp now deals 100% of your base damage and has increased range.
- Final Hit increases attack speed (by 200%) and damage
- Giant Full Swing now has a 5 second cooldown.

We'll live stream it tomorrow. Right now I don't feel like even investigating it too much as Kaeporo and ironwoman has already covered the basics of what this update entails. Any investigation we'll do during the live stream and probably regurgitate much of the info in this thread and run any tests you guys suggest.
Kenero is going to have Kamine translate a bunch of stuff to gleam more additional info. Although I think Kaeporo has most of the important stuff translated so I'm meh at this point about digging deeper.

This is not confirmed yet. Although the damage and speed buff is confirmed, the value of increase isn't yet.
