I think this collab is based on the ufotable version of FSN: unlimited blade works that is currently airing, not on the old FSN adaptations.
This new series doesn't have much in terms of "fanservice" and while not as good as fate/zero it is in similar style/tone and holds up as a sequel to it.
Oh cool. I'll have to look into it then. After I saw fate/zero I just couldn't get into anything else in the series again (thankfully I had watched fate zero after fate stay night and the UBW film). Though first I have to finish watching Log Horizon because someone else here on nation mentioned it D:

Can't wait to see archer hype go up and die down immediately after it's gone

We'll get it if we yell loud enough and what do ya know just like sword art online fate stay hype is popular in the west (I think)
Hopefully NA Nexon doesn't let us down like what they did with FMA a while ago.

My guess is that this update will contain: outfit boxes. Gachas with wigs and weapons and stuff. Maybe an event of some sort like a bingo. I imagine, nothing of practical use though (standard nexon MO). It would be cool if they gave the weapons or full sets the ability to do the characters unique attacks or something but I can't imagine nexon ever doing something like that D:

its not exactly a mainstream anime
I beg to differ. No idea about America, but in Asia and Europe, Fate franchise has been very popular ever since. It's just that it hasn't started with a huge boom, like most of recent series, but steadily kept on growing its fanbase for 11 years so far. Not to mention literal dozens of sequels, prequels and spin offs it's spawned.

I'm still sooo hype, maybe I can get hair I actually like now LOL
I hope they bring in Noble Phantasms in some way.... I don't expect too much over the top but awesome archer skills/even animations would be greaaat--
Anyway, I was made for this day.

Also I would recommend watching the new UBW series, in my opinion it's way better and driven pretty far from the original uh idea of the Fate series lmfao
And fight scenes:

It's an anime, that was apparently a visual novel first, about a bunch of magicians searching for the holy grail, and they each can summon a hero from antiquity to help them, and one of them is a gender-bent King Arthur.

And... why is it popular?

Because memes? Idk, I've only seen the original and it was a long time ago. It was a pretty ok anime, but not so good that I rushed to see the spinoffs. Maybe now I'll get around to it though. Honestly, the fact that King Arthur was a girl bothered me a bit. I thought she should have been Joan of Arc or something.

Why is anything popular? lots people enjoy and are entertained by it. That particular franchise has an interesting setting and lots of action/story/cute girls/manly guys, etc.

I'm honestly baffled you didn't just use the Google.
Also originally, FSN was an eroge--the waifu exploded from there. Though when Gen Urobuchi (guy who wrote Madoka and Psycho-Pass also), the canon eroge pretty much dropped off.
Also Lancer from Fate/Zero is referenced a number of times in Mabinogi already--as he is based on the Irish mythological hero, Diarmuid Ua Duibhne.
