  Ok, I just began the game and I can already join a faction? Does that mean they got rid of that whole quest chain where you meet the 8 masters and two factions ask you to join afterward?

  They allow you to join factions at like level 5 or 10 or something however you are basically forced to join one at 15 I THINK. I'm not entirely sure but you should at least be prompted at that quest you are talking about.

  I use the level 15 one because it seems to allow you into any faction even if it's full.
  
  Also didn't even hit 50 yet (49, HM3) and I slowed down a lot. Training up alts to craft with instead. Shit is too expensive to be worth doing anything at 50. I don't have time to earn 50 billion gold to upgrade my stuff. I was true pirate and maxed accessories (except for a soul) pre-50 patch, but the costs of upgrading now make that look like pocket change.

  Frozen Fang and Awakened Necropolis were pathetically easy even in 4-man (though Necropolis was boring as hell with Darkglimpse orb defense, which is somewhat difficult when playing a class who has long area of effect cooldowns, but otherwise the bosses were cheese). Yeti, on the other hand, requires extremely dedicated teamwork and huge knowledge of the mechanics and your class's iframes/party protections to survive (and he has 7.5 fucking million HP in NA/EU, when KR/TW/JP/etc have 3m or 5m).

By themselves they wouldn't be too horrible, but they're shitting out content updates like a fat guy who ate at chipotle, so the demand for materials is through the roof and the supply is non-existant. Normally this content is supposed to be spaced out to let things establish a balance and give people time to actually accomplish things, it's getting pretty frustrating.
  
  I'm having more fun getting my alts to 37 (access to moonwater and silverfrost zones) and working on their crafting than playing my main who can't afford to do anything. I didn't get lucky with rare drops so I can't afford shit.
