5 Difference is a lot in DPS. Especially around late game damage:

The damage difference can peak at 50k+ with 5 bashes.

Lets compute an average DPS based on Entia's numbers.

AVG for Fishing rod
9930

AVG For a Celtic
8000 Damage

DPS for Fishing rod
6951 Damage per second

DPS of Celtics
6000 damage per second

Basically, even with 5 extra hits per 100 seconds the fishing rod wins. And when you aren't an elf bashing down black dragon both swords will basically preform the same and the damages are so close together mobs will die in 1-2 bashes with either weapon.

At this point a better argument for making a celtic is using a guard cylinder with it.
