So let's talk about keywords. First off, I want to squash a rumor. Some of you may have read on an old version of Nao's page (before the tidbit was removed last May) that there's a "Breast" keyword overseas you can get from her by talking to her about Tailoring. That's just silly, there's no way that the people who made this game would be even remotely perv-

Oh. Well it's not like NA would have bothered to localize-

Oh.
Anyways to be serious now, what was written on the Nao page on the wiki was partially correct. The keyword used is actually Nao's Black Dress (not Tailoring), and her script is set up to give you the Breast keyword if you're not female and not in the US.
In fact, the check is commented.
미êµì€ 가슴 키워드를 주지 않는다.
(Google: "The United States does not give the chest keywords.")
As additional info, Nao herself will respond to the Breast keyword... if you're not in the US. So they made sure this wouldn't work overseas by checking on both giving and taking. This check is commented as well.
미êµì€ 가슴 키워드 ê´€ë ¨ 대화 ì‚ì œ
(Google: "The United States removed the dialog related keywords chest")
Furthermore, her response to you is probably a question, because her script waits for you to pick one of 5 possible buttons. The one you pick determines her reaction, changing her favor with you (anywhere from +3 to -10).
Nao is the only NPC that checks your region before responding to that keyword, but she's certainly not the only NPC set up to respond to this keyword in general.
All Egos, everybody in Bangor, Emain, Cor, Rano, and even a few NPCs in the residential districts you can start conversations with will respond to it. Outside of those, some scattered NPCs elsewhere like Seanan, Seumas, some giants, some Zardine NPCs, Fleta, even Collen and Glewyas and Sinead have responses to it. So it seems like it's legitly "a thing" overseas.
[S]Unfortunately we can't see what the responses actually are since we don't have the server's localization files or anything that. In addition, tricking the game into letting you use the keyword when you don't have it won't work easily. They added some protection since using fake keywords was part of how some cheats were done back in the day by abusing the fact that generation quests are often made of keywords.[/S]
With info granted to us by the mafia, and then the power of sacrificing a goat for a translation, we know what they said. Xcelled took the script and did some replacements and triggers in Aura so we were able to see what it's like in-game too.

There's that asian leading of words. What's it called again? Tatemae or whatever?

Okay and here's that dialogue option screen I mentioned in the first post. All I have to do is be careful and pick the right, tactful answer and-

Damnit.
Anyways the raw text and translations are here, including other NPCS.

Ruwai is a pervy otter.
Rua know how to tease.
Kirine's an icy gfslasgsjk as usual.
Fleta gets a sick burn on the player. :(
EDIT: I had to change that URL, I'm sorry, it was just painful.
And that brings us to...
- Topic 2: Generation Keywords
So as most of you know, the older generations involved lots of running around, using keywords on certain NPCs. That's a neat system, but it brings up two problems.
- On the player's end, finding which keyword to use on which NPC to continue the storyline is neat, but can become an issue as more and more NPCs start to exist.
- On the developer's end, putting in responses to all the keywords for all NPCs starts to compound the work involved.
Due to this, they stopped using keywords in later gens.
Actually no, they didn't. They just made the keywords invisible, and NPCs check to see if you have a keyword and if you do they automatically fire up their quest sequence for it instead of waiting for you to talk to them with it.
- Topic 3: Naming Conventions
Since keywords changed from visible to invisible, keyword (and NPC multiple-choice response) naming conventions changed over time as well. Early on, keywords started out descriptively.
- The G1 keyword "Paradise" is "g1_paradise".
- The G2 Aer keyword is "g2_22_SpiritOfWaterAer".
- The G3 Macha keyword is "g3_04_GoddessMacha".
In fact, they did this up through G6 (the trans quest), like "g6_elf_07_taunes".
Looks fine, right? Well, eventually since the keywords stopped being visible and started being server-side quest markers, they stopped bothering to make them as descriptive.
This started with G7 (and continues to this day). For example Ruwai checks for the "g7s3_04" keyword, which would show up as "Gift Fish for Ruwai"... if it was a visible, usable keyword instead of an invisible quest marker. G13 even has such amazingly-descriptive quest responses as "g13_294209_4". Hell, even the recent Ninja questline uses keywords which would show up in-game with such descriptive names as "ninja_skill_26004".
The good news is they're getting a bit better about it now. G19 has much better keywords, named things like "g19_view_tolvish_abbneagh_bard_camp" and such that will actually allow proper testing and debugging on devcat's end.
And at least this keyword system only affects quests... right?
... oh crap.
- Topic 4: What Else Uses Keywords
Some things are tracked with keywords that you normally think wouldn't be (and shouldn't be). Instead of making a proper flag system, they decided to just use the keyword system for a lot of things.
- Remember the old rebirth system where using a card would let you pick a dye? When presenting you dyes, the rebirth NPCs actually give and take away keywords to keep track of how many dyes you've been presented, to prevent you from just relogging to start over again with 10 more tries.
- Dalies, anybody? The current Sheep Wolf event gives you a keyword (magic_sheep_wolf_event_daily) to make sure you only get the quest once a day. Most other events use invisible keywords to track your progress as well. Hell, the Grandmaster system uses invisible keywords to track your talent, progress, and which missions you've gotten that day.
- And everybody likes Mana Tunnels and Moon Gates, right?
Yup, it tracks which ones you've tagged via invisible keywords.

Xcelled probably has more examples of abusing the keyword system.
Myself, I'll be crying in a corner over the technical state of this game if you need me. - Remember the old rebirth system where using a card would let you pick a dye? When presenting you dyes, the rebirth NPCs actually give and take away keywords to keep track of how many dyes you've been presented, to prevent you from just relogging to start over again with 10 more tries.
