Hi all,
today will be released the new celtic royal knight crossbow and i read somewhere that it will be very strong, maybe even stronger than bhafel bow....is it true?
Thanks

The damage is comparable but bhafel is stronger since it deals the damage faster via better aim speed and refire rates.
Also, the only way the crossbow is comparable is when using special bolts that only come from gachapon or events. These bolts are finite and once you run out of them, the xbow can no longer come close to bhafel.

The Celtic Royal Crossbow w/sharp bolts will generally out-damage the Bhafel Hunter w/Huntress per shot. You're looking at a tiny difference, honestly.
Price:
Bhafel combo is far more expensive to create.
Celtic combo is more expensive to maintain (no infinite ammo).
Damage:
Bhafel combo will hit enemies with very low or very high protection harder than the crossbow combo.
Range:
Bhafel hunter has 2,000 range compared to the Celtic Royal Crossbow's 1800 range.
Mobility:
Crossbows do not restrict mobility.
Accuracy:
Heavy skills: Bhafel aims 11% faster than Celtic
Point-Blank:
1.28 (Bhafel)
1.42 (Celtic)
1k Distance:
4 (Bhafel)
4.4 (Celtic)
Light skills: Celtic aims 12~30% faster than Bhafel (insignificant)
Point-Blank:
0.3 (Bhafel)
0.23 (Celtic)
1k Distance:
0.83 (Bhafel)
0.74 (Celtic)
---
Functionally, they're pretty much equal. The biggest difference between the two is the added mobility granted by crossbows and costs involved. If you've already got a Bhafel combo, stick with it. If you want a cheesy end-game weapon, get the crossbow.

The mobility is more of a human-only thing as well.
Elf magnum CD is so low they gain nothing by moving with a loaded magnum, they can already run with other range skills loaded and Crash Shot CD is so high you can just load it whenever you actually need it.
Humans, on the other hand it makes a very noticeable difference (for AR in particular).

One thing most people are looking over is actually using the good grade weapons.
The biggest flaw with the Celtic Royal Crossbow is its balance. The upgrade paths that favors the all qualities of the weapon and also the one that's most balance friendly, is this: Nicca's Crossbow Enhancement -> Bowstring Winding 2 -> Bowstring Winding 3 -> Ferghus's Crossbow upgrade -> Keen Finish, which at base grade, leaves the weapon only at 10% balance. This means you need at least an A grade or higher to use this weapon effectively, and most of the Mabinogi player base won't even have the dex to use even at 16% balance.
The balance issue translates to indirectly lower DPS.

^It ends at 24%+ balance tho?

In your friend's case, it seems that he used Nerys's Crossbow upgrade as the first step, seeing how the max injury rate is 90 instead of 100. Nerys's upgrade does add balance, and looking at the overall stats, seems like it's C+ or B grade. The problem with this one would be that it missed out on +200 range that could have been used, and now that I look at it, this is a prime example of why you need a higher grade Crossbow.
Like I said before, the bow is very dependent on the grade unlike many other bows (with the exception of Bhafel Hunter and Salvation Bow, because engineering). If the Crossbow does not have higher than A grade, then it doesn't become worth to using because of too much limitation by the base balance, which forces the player to use Nerys's upgrade to compensate for the balance, which at the end with the steps I mentioned, doesn't add or subtract balance from the weapon, but still loses out 200 effective range.
But of course, it won't matter as much if you don't care about 200 range. I still think it's a valuable stat to have, especially for Crossbows.
Basically if your Crossbow ends up like this:

then it's not worth using.

I'd assume Aranwen's upgrade, which also kills 300 range.
Not really worth as I see it.

why'd they do that... omg LOL
some people find the best ways to ruin a good weapon we could almost call it a skill..

Upgrade for trigger strengthening instead of bowstring winding. Problem solved.
All this means is that the weapon is less accessible to under-developed players.

The problem with that is you're missing out on max damage you can get from Bowstring Winding, and some players would rather have that damage.
And I'm speaking for that case, I'd assume you want more damage, even if it may seem like an insignificant amount.

Capped balance is infinitely more important than two max damage.
If that damage loss is sincerely troubling to people then I'll recommend that they don't make a bhafel hunter just to toss out a 41 max roll. If people want the extra 1~2 max damage from upgrades then they'll have to work for a good roll.

Which is basically what I said, people will have to opt in for a good roll if they want the "maximum" damage possible.
