Today I learned that Planned Parenthood was originally created to assist in the genocide of African Americans. It was the hope of the founder, Margaret Sanger, that through sterilization and pushing birth control/abortion they would be able to prevent any more black people from being born in the US.
"We should apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is tainted, or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring." -Margaret Sanger
Since 1973, abortion has reduced the black population by over 25%.
Planned Parenthood operates the nation’s largest chain of abortion clinics and almost 80% of its facilities are located in minority neighborhoods. About 13% of American women are black, but they submit to over 35% of the abortions.
While these statistics are shocking, they are embedded in the history of Planned Parenthood. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, was active with the Klu Klux Klan and the eugenics movement in the beginning of the twentieth century.
Other quotes from Margaret about the mission of Planned Parenthood include -
Give dysgenic groups [people with “bad genesâ€] in our population their choice of segregation or [compulsory] sterilization.
Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race.
We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.
This isn't an argument about whether abortion is good or bad, I just wanted to share what I learned with errybody. :thumb:

No matter if the last quote is misunderstood, I can't come close to imagining the revulsion black people who had to work with her must have felt.

That's hardly surprising considering Sanger was born in 1879 when racism was rampant and eugenics was a widespread mindset.
While Planned Parenthood's origins might reflect such beliefs and some of the early beginnings, any concern with its origins presently sound like speculative conspiracy theorizing, a way to try to argue for anti-abortion under the guise of PP being racist, and irrelevant. I mean, it's interesting stuff from a historical perspective, but many organizations formed in the early 1900's will have questionable foundations.
PP has evolved and developed with the rest of society. Eugentics was a widely accepted mindset and many forced sterilizations of disabled people took place until even as late as 1980. It wasn't until eugenics became negatively associated with Nazi Germany did the policy begin to fall off, but even then it was still practiced afterwards for many years to come in the United States.
In the study of history you'll find that most organizations, companies, policies, and practices have questionable roots. In the case of PP, it seems extraneous to even discuss its origins without first being aware of the timeperiod itself.

Nothing more than a conservative attempt to attack liberal beliefs without awareness of the irrelevance of the origin. What next, Mew 2 was wrong about the circumstances of our birth being irrelevant? Maybe those scientists should've ABORTED him, huh?!

I'm just saying that given your history, posts like this would be seen as intentionally inflammatory. Conservatives like you stand out like sore thumbs in a fist of liberal fingers. You're always the supposed "asshole" of forums, who love to talk politics because you are so sure of being in the right.
I mean, making a post you did on a political topic that had all the bearings of a political attack with your history, and you did not see this coming?
I wouldn't be surprised if you were one of those paranoid people so fond of conspiracy theories like the hipster you are.

This is a thread about the origins of planned parenthood. If you would like to make baseless insults feel free to private message them to me so I can delete them without reading them. This is not Bean Rua, so if you have nothing intelligent to contribute please exit the thread.

The irony of the name mew and mewtwo in a topic about eugenics and genetics and planned parenthood is showing.

I don't think many people still relate "Mew" as my old username.
Mostly because that was years ago and I'm rarely on here. :llama_blush:

It was not so clever satire referring to a famous line meant to point out that origin is meaningless. It could be seen as a partial troll attempt but it did have some purpose.

Friendly reminder that ideas can be stated without being condescending towards others. OP wants this thread to be about what he learned and NOT a full-blown war of what is right and wrong, as stated at the bottom portion of his initial post. (Note: This is for the posts I had to delete regarding this issue.)
Carry on now!
