Wow. Describe the hard way? Due to your valid point of supply and demand fluctuating so heavily in this economy, the price is never set.
Frankly there isn't much spoonfeeding going on here except for the mere fact that not everyone lives to be a fashionogi afking selling their many items/clothing/etc. If a noob got, let's say, a candy pillow from the on-going Nightmare event they could efficiently sell their item without having to come up with an inaccurate price if they're unaware of the current market statuses. The hard way would be realizing you sold something for way less, or bought something way overpriced (as of now). There's nothing more to it than that.
The problem with "average prices".. depending on the item and the demand for it, it can mean
absolutely nothing when no one wants it, so that newbie's candy pillow may not even sell for the "average price". Also, what about outliers? Those who happen to sell for way higher or lower would scale average prices to be inaccurate, no? It'll work for small things ideally, such as upgrade stones, but for expensive and rare items, its going to be a problem.

"[#] of this item sold for an average price of [price] gold over the past week."
or for less frequently traded items,
"Last known sale was for [price] gold, [#] weeks ago."
Gives you a good indication of not only pricing, but how hot the market is for a certain item.
Of course, things like enchants, reforge, upgrades (sp up trade unlocked), etc. would still put a LOT of variation, making this system a bit inaccurate.
A good idea. But the bottom portion alone is enough to make that sort of system not worthwhile.
Unpopular opinion: The market right now isn't so bad with free pricing. If you're going to blame something, blame the easiest way to obtain gold fast (saga). The root cause would be how gold enters and exits, not the price of items. When you buy something, that gold doesn't go poof unless the person who gains it uses it on a gold sink (ex: high repairs, upgrading fees, etc.) And we all know that isn't enough of a gold sink on this game. As long as gachapon/saga exists, there is no way this market can improve much imo.
Would an auction system be ideal for this game? Yes. Will it be done right? Nope, probably not. in2deep
