That sucks that your affection rate goes down if you send them on missions that doesn't see to be good thing imo >.>
I believe it's a mechanic to prevent you from overworking the trainees and as a measure of speed control. That's our thought on it. Of course, it's easy to get their affection up simply by paying the old coot in Alban gate 1-3 lower beltane coins (varies per knight) which is easily obtained from many of the missions.
Another thing is they also have Stress. If they have over 80 stress they cannot be sent on missions. Having them train and do missions also increases that stress. I'm sure Injury further increases that. IT's also possible that stress plays a role in how likely the knights are to get injured when they go on a mission.
You can have the knight rest which will make them unable to be interacted with for 35 minutes but reduces their stress down quite a bit. Kanna went from 15 stress down to 0 when I had her rest.
It's a pretty complex system either way. It's going to require a lot of management and decision making on just how far you want to work your knights. Of course as you get more knights, it's probably easier to manage as you can send other knights out while recuperating the knights that lost their affection or got too stressed.
Just don't think you can enslave the poor trainees for your own person gain as they do have their own feelings and personality and aren't your slaves. I actually enjoy the mechanic as it adds a bit of realism to the system. If you were a trainee knight how would you like to be ordered to be continually trained and sent on missions for another's own shelfish personal gains? I know I sure as hell wouldn't
Talk to your knights, let them rest, be their friend and you shall surely be rewarded. That's how I see the system anyways.
It's similar to partners in a way if you think about it. Don't adequately feed and/or overstress your partner and you'll lose favor and access to some of the benefits they offer.
We're lucky that pets don't mind being constantly killed and left to starve....
