Normally I don't care about copyright but this is beyond fucking retarded:
http://mabinogi.nexon.net/News/Announcements/1/00IiJ
Due to copyright issues, the following books will be removed:
It's a 'paper airplane' that flies
Enchant, Another Mysterious Magic
WHAT?! HOW?! WTF?!
How the flying fuck are these considered copyright infringing?! My fucking brain :fail3:

Probably the titles correspond to existing works or nexon was lazy with the translation and copypasted things it shouldn't have.

In the end, they're just books in Mabi that nobody cares about.

If they didn't list it in the maintenance announcement, no one would have ever noticed. :T_T:

Just now they want to remove something that no one's ever cared about in 7/8 years?

Clearly they did it "just now" because someone claimed a copyright infringement "just now". Otherwise it wouldn't have been touched.

(As I mentioned it another thread, those two specific books are attributed to actual KR players and weren't devcat creations but we don't have many details.)

I liked the Enchant one.
It expanded more on the enchanting skill than just "equip powder and scroll and hope to not fail".
It makes me wish that enchanting had a fancy animation or something, to reflect what was written in section 3 of the book.
I like the 4th section of the book the most
Quote from 4. The Right Attitude and Enchanting Tips:
As an enchanter, always remember that you are risking an item by enchanting it. There is always the chance of lowering an item's durability when you make a mistake. Be mindful of that. The same is true of Reverse Enchanting.
(In my experience, it is wise to have your clients sign a form promising not to hold you liable should the above happen, which it will, no matter how careful you are.)

Maybe now they can rebalance it so there's a chance of no penalty when failing!. . .

DevCAT clearly forgot to do that. Tsk tsk.

I'm curious if this also happened to other oversea servers like JP and they removed these two books on their servers.

Laws are different overseas. We live in a litigated society and therefore it's less surprising that NA nexon is reacting this way. Overseas they may or may not even have the same or similar names, and if they do chances are that the associated countries care far less about American/western copy rights. (granted I understand that they do to an extent, but who wants to internationally try and sue a Japanese/Korean company over a book title in another language)

According to Rydian, the book title isn't in question, it's the content. The content was written by players without decent enough intellectual property consideration. (Also it makes sense, unless devCAT is super lazy, which I guess they are, they could've just changed the title if the title was the problem.)

As others said above, they were written by players.
Although DevCAT had a ToS that allowed them to use secondary creation without further consent or confirmation,
I've heard that Korean law changed few months ago so that companies/organisations can no longer use submitted work without a monetary compensation.
(Take this with a grain of salt, I'm not very good with Korean law.)
So I'm assuming they're just applying worldwide patch for those specific books.
Hmm, I wonder if they took out those books in KR client too.
