I have just finished up Defense. Take a look at my signature to see what R1 skills I already have, every other skill is below RC.
I was starting Firebolt, but then I realized that I have never and will never use it. I was thinking either Thunder or Ice Spear next.

Have you capped Charge?
Are you interested in Alchemy?
Carpentry is also a good choice, but I dunno how you feel about grinding that skill to Rank 1.

I'm not going to rank Charge, it's useless except in duels and I don't PvP any more.
Also.
I'm not interested in Alchemy at ALL. Like, I'd sooner let my AP stack up forever than start Alchemy.

I'm guessing you're not interested in Evasion either.
If not, then Combat skill tab is pretty much done for you, until the Masteries and Leap Attack in G13.
Either Carpentry or TH/IS as you said.
Do you raft?

If you use melee alot, carpentry is probably good.
But it seems that use ranged a fair bit, so you can try something like weaving.
I'd prefer thunder over ice spear. Ice spear is a skill (at least from what I can see) for dedicated mages who can spam it over and over, [Disclaimer: No personal experience] due to its low damage compared to thunder, which is just a load of damage at once.

I do range quite a bit, but I can spam life skills while I'm training.
I don't raft, but I've been told it's a good way to earn Exploration experience.

If you're interesting in that then go for Thunder.
And spam Carpentry in-between for more STR.

I think r1 Firebolt is a good skill to rank, since you can use it for ballooning exploration exp and against monsters with level 1 or 2 heavy stander, like Gold Mask Ghosts. The AP cost isn't too expensive, and you get some decent int with it as well.

Carpentry, Fireball, and Charge :D

Thunder for rafting for Expl EXP for more AP.
Because AP is what everybody wants.

I'd do some Adv Magic. Do Thunder IMO. When that's done get Rank 6 MS. It's amazing defense for dungeons and SM's. Thunder is also great for getting Lv 15 Explore in 3 raft runs.

Considering that you have several high ranged ranged skills, I would save up AP for Crash Shot. It'll replace Thunder's usefulness when rafting and has excellent end-game potential, provided you have the dexterity.

I kinda agree with ranking crash shot when it comes out. The question is how long will that be?

I can get artifacts from Cor and probably get Lv15 in 45 minutes. Pantay Swamp is even better.

You'll only need to raft twice in order to "essentially" reach level 15. Rafting also gives some decent combat experience and skill training.
Exploration: 0-15 (fossil restoration, Cor exploration, rafting minigame)
Exploration: 15-20 (rafting minigame)
Exploration: 20-25 (field boss hunting)
As I previously stated, rank Crash Shot. The AP requirement is tremendous -/if you start saving now it's likely you still won't be able to afford r1 before G12S2 is released.
