Quote from Bieber;176303:
Being gay is not a sexual preference. That is not how it starts, it starts in our genes. Just as you are genetically made up to like the opposite sex. All your views based off religion are acquired due to the surroundings you grew up in (ie parents making you go to church). We are genetically made like this yet society tells us otherwise which is why it takes us a while to figure out that were LGBT.
Quote from Chiri;176316:
For the most part, the sexual preferences that have been listed here are general attractions (physique, hair color) or fetishes (maid, bdsm), which for the most part seem to have a source of childhood memories, imprinting, or societal pressures.
I sincerely doubt that people would be into loli guro maids with guns and guitars if they had not heard of it first and learned to appreciate it. Likewise, different cultures find completely different human attributes attractive-- things like long necks, tiny & distorted feet, extreme obesity-- which pretty much indicates these things are heavily based on society.
What makes orientation different is that it exists despite any environmental factors to the contrary.
Could you two show me the genes responsible for people being gay? And wouldn't a genetic reason for being gay, mean that there would be a family history of it?
I believe it's a little bit of both. One of my Bi friends once said that they believe everyone are attracted to both sexes, most people are just more attracted to a specific sex. So I believe it's partly genetic and partly your circumstance and upbringing.
But since nether of use can prove that it's genetic or circumstance or both, we should probably leave it at that.
My reason for saying that what we call sexual preferences aren't necessarily acquired. As an example, some people get sexual pleasure from certain kinds of pain. So how is that possible to be acquired, unless the person didn't have some sort of genetic or physiological reason for it?
Quote from Chiri;176323:
By the way, if I'm not Christian, I don't see why I have to be bound by a book that's over 2000 years old. The legal system should remain secular and be separate from the Bible or any other religious text. Divorce is largely disagreed upon by Christians, but they can just choose to not get divorces. It doesn't doesn't have to change them or their lifestyles.
I never said you have to be bound by it, nor that laws should be changed by it. Like I said it's your choice.
Quote from Bieber;176328:
And If I believe God isn't real?
It's your choice to believe or not. Just be prepared to bear the consequences, which shouldn't be a problem since you don't believe and according to you there is none.
Quote from Phunkie;176331:
Thank you for that, really.
However, I don't agree with religion's stance on the whole, "you can love everyone, but you just can't lie in bed with another man." Or have sex before marriage and whatnot.
It's silly to me.
You can be in love with another man (Bible doesn't condemn you for that), but you can't make love to that same man?
Lots of hypocrisies in the Bible and therefore I disregard it. Should not play a significant role in anyone's life. There are Christians out there who advocate love and just love. You don't believe in Jesus, but are a good, kind-hearted person throughout your life? 'Course you're going to Heaven.
That sort of stuff.
An external presence such as God cannot choose what is right or what is wrong for us. We make our own rules and we should base those rules upon what is fair and what is not fair. Condemning people because of their sexual orientation is wrong. Let's not even bring the whole marriage deal into play here.
If love is a sin, then it is one of the most beautiful sins that has ever existed. Love is beautiful, no matter in what shape or size. And that's what we should all advocate: love. Not hatred, not fear or injustice, but simply love.
If there is a God, I believe Him to be all-loving, no matter what. I'm just sorry Christians blow ancient verses way out of proportion.
Just as it's silly to you, it's silly to me that you don't believe there's a God that created everything and that's looking over you and taking care of you. It must be very scared to think you have to go trough life alone, not having anyone to look over you and protect you.
The bible having allot of hypocrisies is because even though the bible was inspired by God, it was still written and translated by humans, how are fallible by nature.
Love is beautiful but it's not a sin and sex is not love. Sex is a biological action and to some extent perceived as an act of love, but it's in no way love. You can have a deep and intimate love with out ever having sex.
Anyway, I've wasted enough of my Mabi time. I'll look back tomorrow, or before bed. Depending on how I feel.
edit: Making my two posts one

Eh.... don't make fun of me using the wrong words. English isn't my first language.
Quote from Intex;176336:
For example, love and compassion are not logical.
Therefore humans are not logical beings.
Good logic.
Thanks hehe
