Quote from Phunkie;176388:
I have my parents and the people I love looking over me. They protect me and catch me when I'm falling. And you know what's the best part about them? I know they're real.
I'm not alone. I've never been alone.
Written and translated by humans... hmm, doesn't that make you wonder? The Bible is not the word of the God, it is the word of Man. And Man can be smart sometimes, using tricky tools and techniques to fool the masses into doing something.
You can definitely have a deep and intimate love without ever having sex, but it is fair to forbid gays from having sex because this action is considered a sin, according to the Bible? Probably not. So why enforce it when there's a bunch of other rules in that silly ol' book that people don't enforce?
You know why? Because hardcore Christians loooooove to pick and choose verses to their advantage. If you're gonna listen to the Bible, please listen to it in its entirety.
If not, why are you here poking at me because I'm not following one rule you particularly like when you yourself don't follow a thousand other rules? Let's be consistent now.
This is why your argument is silly to me.
I know my God is real as well and he's with me 24/7/365 till my death, you can't say the same of any person.
It's still inspired and the people are still guided by God.
It doesn't affect you since you're not a Christian, so why complain about it? And I don't see how it's unfair. It's your choice to disregard God's laws, so it's only fair that you pay the penalty or repent your sins.
And I'd respectfully ask you not to call the Bible a "silly ol' book". It's disrespect full to me and my religion. And it's not peoples job to enforce the rules in the bible. It's each and everyones own responsibility to follow the laws. When judgment comes we'll all be judged on the lives we've lived and if you didn't repent your sins and don't believe in Jesus as your Saviour, then you'll have to defend yourself and pay for your sins yourself.
I don't expect you to agree with me, but I'm telling you why it seems like they're not being enforced. And to be honest, have I been trying to enforcing it on you or picking at you? No I haven't and in truth trough this hole thread I've been advocating tolerance and acceptance.
And to be honest, you don't know me well enough to say that there's thousands of rules I'm not following or to say that I'm a hardcore hypocritical Christian. Though I'm the first to admit I'm not perfect and I'm just a normal sinful human-being, no where have I been attacking or poking at you for committing a sin. I merely said I disagree with homosexuality, because it's a sin. I don't see why it would bother you to commit a sin in the eyes of a God you don't even believe exists.
Quote from Chiri;176436:
Oh, I'll agree that both play a factor.
Gene expression is a pretty complex process though, so pinpointing a specific 'gay gene' is not easy, and has not been done. The general idea is that there are a combination of genes that contribute to sexual orientation. Anyway, there have been studies that suggest being gay is inherent. If one twin is gay, that raises the likelihood of the other being gay.
My argument is just that I don't like liking maids is quite so inborne as being attracted to males or females.
Can I blame my genetics for not being attracted to boys or girls on a wide scale? Maybe, maybe not, but I think it's not something other people should be disgusted by.
I'll give that some if not most sexual preferences are acquired, like maid and other superficial fetishes. But you have to agree that some are a combination of both circumstance and biology. My reason being, is why do some people find some sexual actions highly pleasurable, while other find it to be uncomfortable or even painful? It has to have some biological aspects to it as well.
Quote from starpaw7;176440:
Humans are part of nature, are they not?
I would rather see proof that homosexuality is unnatural; often there is no coincedence that what is condemned this "unnatural" also happens to be condemned by the person's religous/cultural traditions, nor of what they normally see.
Well there is a species of monkey that also exhibits homosexuality. But they're probably Bi since they do it with everyone.
Quote from Whyrainfalls;176451:
Can you show the the genes that determines eye color? No you cannot. Can you show the the genes that determine metabolism or height? No. Sometimes, it may be hundreds of genes that determine a single factor. This is also a logical fallacy called Appeal to Ignorance, where you claim that the lack of evidence somehow proves something.
No. There are many genetic related factors that have little to no family history and then they just somehow show up. A wonderful example is albinism in Africans. For hundreds to thousands of generations back, no single member of a pedigree ever showed a sign of being albino, yet a child was born being albino, and that was a genetic cause.
Yes I do understand that. I was merely using it in an argument that there's no solid proof that it's genetic alone and that cultural and other factor could also play a role.
