Because everything is a competition nowadays. I hate it and I don't see why people have to compete with each other over everything. I honestly think part of it has to do with the whole pvp/evg/solo exp gain. If you beat someone in pvp that means you're better than them, if you can spam arrows or ice in evg and camp someone then you're better than them, what's the point in doing something if I you can't get the max exp, etc. etc. etc.
True...
Actually, there are some thing they can do to alleviate the situation.
1. Take out the PVP achievements from the diary. PVP should be for friendly fun, not for competition.
2. Make the rewards for party play better, but find a bot-proof or multiple account proof way because there are a lot of people who cheat.
Such as saying there will be a penalty for AFK members in a party since a lot of people just like to camp their multiple accounts outside of the room and leech exp.
3. Scrap the current royal alchemist system and make it such that anyone can help provided they get a royal alchemist license that is valid for one week. (And obtaining this license requires completion of quests.) If they want to make it such that people voluntary help others, they should not make it based on competition.
4. Make more generation quests party-type. Just like how G1, the generation with the best story, is. It's really sad seeing almost all the missions are solo-type if not for royal alchemists, but that's also bad enough seeing that there are only 100 per server.

I think it's still happening. Just throw in a few dedicated players to play with, no matter how nooby everyone is. Or still is.
:awesome: hehe.

Meh.
I haven't played Mabinogi in six months because I've been stuck in Africa. When I last played, my guild and my friends list were empty. I only occasionally break from grinding and dueling to help randoms run Maiz.
This whole time I've been alone. I have nothing fond to look back on. Enjoy what pleasant memories you have because some of us were born into this form of Mabinogi.

I don't miss the old days at all. I'd like some of my old friends to come back, that's for sure. but it would be more fun with them today, the way things are with so much to do than it used to be.
Ciar isn't that fun after the tenth time in a single day. Shadow missions are at least shorter, require no passes to hunt annoyingly, and can optionally be soloed but still excellent to party in.
Nostalgic types like to gloss over the ever present members of every random newbie party: the guy who gets the 5th key in the dungeon and promptly afk's for half an hour. The guy that stops outside the door to the room and leaches for 5 rooms in a row. the never fail fact that -someone- is going to afk right as you start the dungeon. Or the semi-pro training WM who is using your party just to not have to hunt his own ciar/basic/intermediate pass, leave party and runs ahead to train his wm and not leave anything for anyone else to kill.
Then you have the newbs redowning stuff, "helping" you fight, and so on.
The old days were fun when you met up with people possessing more than half a brain and who were fun to talk to. Then you stopped subjecting yourself to random newbie parties because you met up with some cool people to hang out with instead.
Mabi is much larger now, and it is a lot easier to stay away from the dramawhores and trolls (those always existed, don't try and kid yourself). Having to pay for rebirths (and even then only once every three weeks) is something I don't ever want to go back to. Nor the hidden, unexplained requirement of premium service to use ego/paladin skills.
While we have more combat skills and combat content than before, we also have many more options outside of combat. Nearly every generation/group of generations has given us new lifeskills or near-lifeskills: Pioneers of Iria (g4-6) gave us metalurgy. G8 animal taming, G9 gave us synthesis and fragmentation. G10 gave us metal conversion, g11 carpentry. As of now we have hot springs to hang out in (why don't more people do that?) fashion shows, winemaking, and farming.
People complaining they are bored is because they have no imagination, and don't participate in what is available to play.

The game was fun when the whole idea of it was Fantasy Life for me. Then it became repetitive once it switched to a different track and was all about "Being the best warrior evar".

Your screenshot's give me lots of nostalgia xD.
I remember when the bear was the most effing fearful thing ever and that buying Lemonia moon armor made me feel like a god.
This. QFT.

Considering my first character was and still is Giant and that I joined right before G8 came out, I'm willing to bet you've played longer than I have. I believe I understand what you mean. It was hard to find anyone to play with so I did everything by myself. I learned the combat system by myself, I learned to solo dungeons by myself and all of this was before I even knew there was a wiki.
So while I enjoy good company and a not-so-serious attitude with the game, I still prefer to play by myself sometimes. I still hate what I mentioned in my previous post but I understand why people don't dungeon run with full parties
all the time and act like a bunch of newbies.

Remember when we looked like adventurers, and not aristocrats or kingdom-funded knights, all with varying colours of roughly the same basic gear?

I also miss those days. But alas, Mabi lost it's original intent while expanding. :(

content wise, I probably wouldn't want to go back
people wise, sometimes I would rather have that back again
(maybe if the durability system was adjusted to not lose dura so randomly, it could help fix some problems, I'd definately do random crap if I didn't have to care about durability xD)
and MAYBE something could be done if DEVcat "renews" all the generation/content that they tend to ignore after a new generation is released xD

There's still random parties everywhere, especially in Mari. The locations have just changed.
I love to hop on alts, or even my main sometimes, and go do random shadow wiz basic runs in taill, where no one in the party will have over 800 cp. It can be really fun haha
The 'old days' aren't really gone at all. I still see new players who play just like I did when I started-- banding together to just get through, and sharing good times.
Most of us have just lost touch with that as we've gone on, for one reason or another.

I always thought it would be cool if new servers would start at G1 and get the same events and such (just so that they have all the limited edition items/pets) but I know that would never happen :(

tldr: Do dungeons / shadow missions with more random people, dammit.
I don't like this because often when I do
anything with random people, there happens to be one, two, or five trolls/noobs/whatever who just ruin the whole supposedly "fun" time. I just stick to my guild or solo. And the one time I actually went with a full party of 8 into an adv secret underground mission thingy, there was one guy who wouldn't stop going "QQ we're gonna fail" and telling everyone to stop dying. Apparently we're able to play dead when being hit by 6 monsters at once now, you see.
Or use any skill without it being canceled while getting hit. If so, I call hax.
