I should have made it clearly, death is the reason why humans want religion.

Hey, didn't people believe in Greek and Roman gods at one point?
Isn't that now known as mythology?
What sets Christianity apart from mythology? Hmm...

Yeah. When I look back on it, I realize the only reason I was so willing to believe in God is because I wanted to believe that I wouldn't just end like that when I died, especially if for some reason I didn't get to live long in the first place. Sometimes I feel like I'm still coming to terms with my fear, but I won't try to lie to myself about it anymore. The only reason I was agnostic is because I wasn't entirely willing to let go until recently.

I used to hang onto religion because I wanted to know when people died, I'd see them again.
But I've long let go of that :\
When people die, who knows where they've gone? It's hard to accept they've vanished, so I don't know what to think.

haha
I stopped believing in God when my Mom told me that Santa Claus wasn't real.
I was heartbroken.
I therefore stopped believing in anything or anyone I can't see, touch or feel. Love is real, as I've felt it before. But I've never felt God. Therefore, it doesn't matter if he is or isn't real, because to me, he isn't real and he doesn't govern my life. I govern my life.

Matter cannot be created, nor destroyed, only transformed.
So I like to think that when a person dies, they return to this Earth that brought them. They're all around us. It's kinda like that Native American belief in spirits.
It's silly when you think of it though. For example, when my Mom dies, I know she won't be watching me. But I can encourage and motivate myself by saying that she is-- that she watches me, that she guides me. I'd love to believe she does.
And who knows? Maybe she does. I don't know.
But in the end, I govern my own life. Not my Mother's spirit, not God.

The catalyst for my train of thought that led to me not believing in god also starts with Santa.
If I can believe that lie without proof, what other lies could I believe? What other rug would be pulled out from under me?
On the bright side, I think I've learned to appreciate what I have in life more. I have someone who loves me for who I am, who doesn't want me to suffer, and that's good enough for me.

Im not gonna scroll through this massive wall of pages n text so im only on first page while posting this.
I am a Science Man. I love to speculate and try to find the answers to many things. In the end I need irrefutable evidence for something to exist. the fact is that no matter what someone does, in the end it is humans themselves that cause they're fate. I mean how many people who truly hate god... have died though some accident or early? Maybe 1 out of a hundred? Thousand? either way it is impossible to prove god exists.
Then there is religion. Personally i don't really mind it, but sometimes I think it is a very bad idea. Religion, by definition, "a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny."
To me this just makes humans out to be sheep. I mean go and count how many religions that are out there. Hundreds, if not thousands, of religions exist. Why so many? Mainly because humans naturally turn to the "alpha male" in this case their god. This can be a blessing, and a curse. After all the real god is the one who comes up with the religion is it not? He who writes the holy books could put down any reasonable activity and can expect the followers to do so. Again this is the human element following the leader.
Lastly religion can easily be turned from good to bad. For example, some may not like it, but you cannot deny that cults spawned from th ideals of religion. They are the same in every way, aside from their teachings and activities. Luckily only those with the weakest of minds follows these "satanists""demon-worshipers" etc.
In the end though it all boils down to one truth. We are human. Humans will do what humans are meant to do. In the end it is all the same. The human element is what controls all.

Santa is little kids' "God." :T_T:
We all believe in him so faithfully, only to be let down.

Why do people look at religions the wrong way?
What is wrong with helping others in need of help?
All the horrible things you hear about Christianity are just the media. They are there because people want to hear them.

Because the good will and intentions of religions are often distorted and manipulated to people's advantages.
I don't like religion. But that's just my opinion.
My Mother is religious. She's Catholic, our whole family is, but she's the loving type. The type that everyone should be.
It's not wrong to have a set of beliefs--in fact, I urge you to believe in something--but the way some people carry their beliefs out is just wrong and unfair.
With that said, you don't need religion to help people.

The horrible things I say about Christianity, if anything, is what I witness.
I'm okay with a lot of Catholics. My boyfriend is Catholic. But unlike my parents, he doesn't try to shove it down my throat.

So why exactly do non-christians represent christians?
The manipulated version of christianity is not christianity. Those who manipulate religions are false prophets and jesus already warned christians about them.
I or any other real christians don't try to force religion into you. The most we do is open the door and give opportunity. However, those who do try to force it are just confused about how christianity works.
It's not like I'm trying to disprove your opinion or anything so don't go on saying that christianity=bs.

I don't think any belief is BS.
You believe in it, fine.
But just accept that is just one of many beliefs out there. That's the main problem I have with religion. It encompasses everyone, even the non-believers who do not identify with the religion.
There's Buddism, there's Hinduism, tribal religions, Shinto, all of which are fine in their own right.
But can you, as a Christian, say that someone who doesn't believe in Jesus but instead believes in the Great Spirit (a Native American belief) is not going to hell?

looking at the contribution religion has made I would say, that the reason we are at the age of reasoning was because of science. No one here has yet to say anything bad about religion anyway. This I think is a popular topic that pops up from time to time, as to why there is suffering in the world.
