I've been playing around with a lot of them, but I've actually noticed some game play differences in the control schemes. This is what I have so far:
Mouse
- more mobile camera control, and thus, easier movement because it's easy to get used to how the camera moves.
-you have to "reposition" the mouse sometimes.
Keyboard
-missing less (the game seems to auto lock on enemies?)
-pressing keys for skills makes it less likely to mess up (or maybe it's just me, but clicking everywhere makes me miss my combo sometimes)
-more precise camera control.
In a lot of the solo videos I've seen (at least the most impressive ones) use the keyboard controls. What control scheme do you use and why? Do you think there's actually a "better" one?

There is a better one, and it's the one I use.
And that is controller.

i recently got a logitech chillstream xbox 360 controller from my friend, curious to try it out due to the option for that configuration in game. i found using the in game configuration for the controller was a bit limiting, so i downloaded xpadder, put keyboard/mouse buttons to my controler schema, tweaked the xpadder and in game mouse sensitivity, and its just wonderful. the version of xpadder does not take into acount joy stick clicks, and the second set of triggers, but if u double tap up, u sprint, and set the in game option to grab when left/right mouse clicked, everything is covered, so far (that is until i get more complex skills, at which time idk how that will play out yet).

You could have put keyboard and mouse options into the controls already.
The four columns in the control settings can be used simultaneously.
I haven't found the need to hybridize my controller with my keyboard or mouse yet though. Some camera actions that I wouldn't have used normally, I can't use. I might like them if I try them, but so far I only use track to closest enemy.

i know, but without xpadder the buttons are just controller buttons. with xpadder, the controller emulates your mouse/keyboard almost perfectly, and u just set in-game to mouse mode, and keep ur configuration the same as what ur used to.
edit: its hard to explain, especialy since im not there im at work. the main reason i got the program was because with controller mode, u cant select "attack in direction of camera", which doesnt seem to work anyway (when using controller in mouse mode), but i just kept the configuration i had, its more confortable and seems to give u more options. also iirc with mouse sensitivity, there was the trouble of the camera moving to slow, and the cursor moving too fast to hit those buttons on teh screen (in dialog/inventory, etc.), with the program you can tweak the mouse sensitivity, and tweak it in game. at the right setting its pretty much perfect.

I'm not sure I follow. Which buttons are just controller buttons?

sry things are coming back to me. one of the main things was with the controller config, you cant use the joystick as a mouse, unless there was a setting or button i overlooked.
see my edit in above post as well.
im sure its all personal pref, but hopefully provides a solution to babohtea's wanting to use a controller and lack of accuracy.

I don't think he wanted to use a controller.

I personally just use Keyboard Skilled with a bit of customization

my bad, i misread his entry. i thought he was looking at pros/cons to using keyboard/mouse to a controller, not different keyboard/mouse configs. sry! :D

I prefer keyboard over mouse/keyboard. I find it a lot more comfortable to hit my s + d keys to combo rather than clicking with a mouse. Camera control is a bit harder, but i got used to it. (hint: the space key is your friend ;) So yeah, I think keyboard is better, but I'd like to try using a controller sometime.

yeah, i think i got lost on whyrainfalls' post about using a controller, sry about that. the beauty of the game is the functionality/customization options that let you play a multitude of different control schemes. i suppose i was just excited that with that fact, i was able to tweak my game controler to function flawlessly (to me that is, and so far).

I prefer the keyboard (customized for esdf) for movement, with the mouse for the view and attack/smashes. <3 It's how I play on almost every game if I can. The controller seems kind of hard to get used to and I'd probably die without being able to chat and having to put it down every time.

All my action games are controlled with n52 keypad and mouse. I'm too used to looking around with the mouse to go full keyboard. All attack buttons (normal, smash, kick, grab) are mapped to the mouse as well. I always try to have look and attack on the right hand, and movement on the left hand.
