I've been playing Mabinogi since beta, I know hard to believe I'm so nub.... I get it. I absolutely love it because its so different (gameplay wise) then the other MMO's out there atm. Recently though I just cant find anything fun to do anymore. I never have touched a lifeskill, or gone deep into alchemy. I have 50-70 level giant, and elf on both Mari and Alexina. I have a main who is stuck around TL 36x~400. I have goals but when I log on I just never achieve those goals or I feel like I'm progressing so dam slow while everyone has their TL over 500 by now. Probably the only beta who semi-actively/actively (depending on mood) plays whose main is at an extremely low level.
My main has R1 range, r4 mag, r3 crit, Paladin trans (almost White Knight, only one more rank!) and something like 1xx exploration levels, R8 CM, and rE ice (lol!) oh and CP is only around like 74x. My elves/giants don't have trans. Giant is a mage, and my elf is a hybrid.
Basically after describing my noobness, how do you guys keep yourself so entertained and constantly ranking/leveling so fast. I've tried making videos to stay entertained but that only works for so long. Since I just got back from a month grounding my urge to play Mabinogi is high, but once I log I just grind SM missions to level.......
Share tips please. I want to get into Mabinogi like I was but just at a loss.
P.S. sorry bout tl:dr

It's called pacing, friends, and perspective.
you can't get anywhere without perspective

Borrow 10 mil from a friend.
Spend it.
Spend the rest of the week trying to get it back, through w/e you like. There you go, a goal you can't not achieve.

Everyone feels the same as you sometimes. I don't think I'd still be playing if it weren't for my friends. I've also put a lot of time into Saani, and I hate throwing things away after I've spent so long on them.
Try some dungeons you've never done before(if that's possible.) Do something totally random. Shadow missions help to pass the time, too, and will give you some quick levels and cash.
Lifeskills are amazing to pass the time. I'd try something like herbalism or instrument playing, easy and simple. If you have the money, do tailoring or blacksmithing.

Pi pikachu. pi pika pi pikachu. pi pika.
(Find motivation to want to play an mmo. If you can't find any, suck it up and quit until you get it. You're better off having fun with a random MMO and not knowing what the hell you're doing than playing an MMO to be the best and slave driving yourself in the process (Even though you can be doing that and having fun at the same time.))

Thing is though, I don't want to give up Mabinogi since no other good MMO's are out atm. I've been trying a whole lot of new ones and they all fail horribly.... I just went through 4 games in a day due to them all being sucky, and yes I really tried to find fun but doing click+watch stopped being fun years ago.
I really wanna play Maple again but it wont work says I'm hacking ;~; same thing with CA, or gives me the 503 (security/firewall error) when I have everything Maple and CA related approved.

Well dont spam missions by yourself. Id shoot myself if I had to do that.
Run things with friends. Get a huge group of people together and do an unbeatable dungeon. (Ex.Peaca Ciar Adv HM etc.)
The dumb things in mabi is what makes it fun for me. Find whats fun for you.

OOC :: I'm in pretty much the same situation as you, except I joined a few months after you did(July 4th, 2008.) Training with friends actually really helps, as long as you don't get bored too fast. OR...if you're used to grindfests like me, just decide one day that you're going to train a skill and never stop until you reach your goal.

seems like you haven't touched refine, correct? work on that yo. when im bored / dont feel like dungeoning / have suckie internet connection, i just metallurgize on my elf mule while i youtube on the side, then work on refine (r2 ninety something percent). i repeat it over and over. it's a great thing to do when you dont feel like pouring your heart into the game. you keep yourself entertained (youtube/streaming) while youre working towards a goal. another thing i do instead of that is herbalize on my mule, then pot make a shetload of pots on my main, then repeat, all while i youtube. no thinking, no stress. goodness. i suggest not soloing sm's. it's so boring. i only solo if i'm desperate for cash / exp and there's literally no one on in mabi to party with. guild runs are fun as hell. if you are weak though, some dungeons/sm's might be just stressful and suckie. that's how i am with hm's and adv sm's xd i just end up feeling really bichy. so make sure its something you know is not TOO hard for you, and make sure it is something you think you'd enjoy.

Don't play to be good. Play to have fun.

I don't play to be good, I want to be good. Like I feel I should be at least 1k TL -ish for playing from Beta. Plus it'll make me feel better. As of now I am gonna pick up my Alexina main and start working on refining.

The reason I'm playing DFO is because I'm currently bored with Mabinogi. Play DFO. Trust me. You will ENJOY IT A LOT
While it's downloading, play
Super Mario Crossover

Being good is boring. Everybody's good. I'm sick of good people. The day I get r1 anything is the day I stop playing Mabinogi.

Lol yeah I know but see I'm sooo far behind and I have my giant and elves and 2 other humans to play on to keep me from reaching r1 skills fast.

The problem with being good is that there will always be someone better than you. So why bother. Get to a point where you're comfortable and capable, and then don't worry about it. You'll always have friends to back you up in tough situations, and you can always help other people out. But striving to be the best, or be way beyond what you are is just a waste of time and ruins any chance of having actual fun.
