  As for the defensive argument, yes, those spears were definitely used more defensively, but they were also built differently. And it's true as well that spears have been used on horseback.

  Well those weapons are joke weapons. Can't really be compared to anything.
  I gave an example where it WAS used defensive and offensively.
  The strength of lances and spears (Brionac) are represented accurately in the fact that they deal damage past the defense and protection of an enemy (striking weakpoints) and aren't all weapons "different"
  
  EDIT: MP only really makes a difference for those strictly concerned about cost. I am talking about the actual ability (power)

  My point was that when it comes to creativity, the original intended use tends to go out the window.

  I'm really talking more in terms of convenience and without the need to depend on pots
  the way I fight I usually just stop using magic if I run out of mana and go back to melee- or I use magic as more of an extension to my melee so I hardly notice the loss until I decide to use Thunder (that's just my human though)
  
  but yea I guess it is more about cost too

  You can still get a pretty damn nice mana pool on a giant tho. And when it comes to needing a specific thing for a specific situation... you pot when you need the thing lol.

  True. And the basis is there... just the implementation is different. The original use got screwed with once they multiplied the size lol.

  New skills are not very stable. If they are too powerful, they will eventually nerf it. The fear is that Giant is getting too overpowered with all these updates.
  
  The only reason that justifies making Giants more powerful is only because there are a lack of giant players on the server.
  
  (Seriously, if they had made Giants look good with clothing and have a lot of these melee capabilities back then I would have chosen Giant as a main character, since range is affected by latency and my main attack is melee. It's not too late for new players though.)

  yeah it is possible, but then it's not just mana pool, but the skills using more MP (which then that mana pool may be nice but it gets drained quick)

  That's just it though. Shields are defensive-- alone, a lance has almost no defensive capabilities. Since the Lances in mabi are currently massive to the point a human is forced to use two hands, they are left mostly defenseless.
  
  Even giants have difficulty properly bringing a shield to bear while using the oversized weapon, and thus are limited to the less useful defensive tools it offers. Windguard is helpful, but crippled in usability by the zone inside a lance's range that cannot be attacked. PD is useful also, but does not always activate.
  
  Essentially, if one is to use a lance of that size, they have to have support, and they need to be aggressive. You can't afford to be multi-aggro'd using that thing.

  Besides, note that really this is just a weapon option for giants. Its not like lances are any better then the current weapons available from what we've seen. Training the skills may be a bit annoying for humans but you still can get the benefits of the stat gain so there's not much to complain about. That and you could always just switch to AUX whenever you really needed that moment of mobility.
