An old game, made by Nitro+ in 2003.
Title: Saya No Uta
Genre: Drama, Horror
Rating: Adult (violence, gore, sex)
Synopsis:
Fuminori Sakisaka is the victim of a near-fatal car crash that killed both his parents. In order to save his life, Fuminori undergoes an experimental brain surgery. To the doctors, it seems like a miracle that he survived. However, the surgery left Fuminori with a terrible side-effect: all of his senses are warped. Everywhere he looks, Fuminori sees the world covered in blood and flesh, and normal humans look like monsters to him. Fuminori’s other senses follow suit. Food that would normally be delicious tastes hideous to him. His senses of hearing, smell, and touch are all affected in the same manner. Fuminori is aware of his condition, and he knows that others still perceive the world as they normally would. However, no one else is aware of this condition.
As he contemplates suicide, he is met by Saya, a girl who he sees, feels, hears, and smells like a normal human being. He desperately falls on to her, and she is quick to accept him, even latch on to him on abnormal levels. However, Saya is a mysterious girl who holds many grim secrets. Why is she the only normal person in Fuminori's hellish nightmare? Why is she so attached to him? WHAT is Saya?

Saya No Uta is one of the most twisted and gruesome stories I have ever read. The horror element is executed very nicely, and its difficult to not be intrigued. The whole plot is full of pure insanity, but its insanity you can understand. It strikes tragedy, terror, and affection for the characters.
There are two downsides to this visual novel.
1. Poor interface. You can't freaking go backwards, so you damn better read carefully. Make sure to keep save points, which I also couldn't figure out until I realized that the only way to open the menu was to right click. They also offer a "less violence" version, but that actually censors out significant parts of the story that makes what this awesome game great. So pick no censorship.
2. Gratuitous amount of sex. The novel is about a 5 hour read. Around an hour of it will be sex. Now don't get me wrong, some of the sex was really necessary to explain the plot. It was an important development and even did a good job of showing character. But there was probably twice as much sex as there should've been.
Overall this is a fantastic VN, and its actually making me interested in other potential VNs (though I don't know if there are too many that can top this jewel). Get it. Read it. Blow your mind.
