If they can spread character data onto different servers why not fully transfer it to a new one? Really, is a new server that expensive?
They could just buy new hardware for Alexina then.

Players on other servers will get pissed off. No, it isn't fair that Alexina is broken, but it isn't fair to others for a rush of other players and more items. It may not seem like it, but adding a few more rare items to a server can really kill the economy of said item.
Quote from Shirayuki;271717:
Yeah economy would get ****ed.
lol, you guys are funny.
No, even if all of Alexina moved to one single server, people would never even notice a thing if noone told them. Economy is always changing. It isn't like you can get out a thermometer to measure that the economy is getting bad or not in a MMORPG. It never gets "*****ed". What is the difference between people bringing new rare items from other server and people finding new rare items, especially if they don't even sell them? Absolutely no difference.
The biggest thing is that there will be a naming problem for those more common names. Probably the only real problem for those people who loves their name.

Yes, a new server that is capable of serving thousands of connections is expensive to buy and maintain.

LOL, really? Okay, I'll lay it out for you so you can process it better. A RUSH of new items. Items are found over time. These are all coming. At once. And what are you talking about, "Don't even sell them"? People sell rare items all the time.

people from other servers shouldn't have to deal with a huge influx of people and items, and alexina shouldn't have to deal with its community being separated. some of us like our friends, our guild, and our names. 8I

There are a few things I NEED in order for this to happen,
-I stay on the same server as all my friends.
-I keep all of my items.
-All of my pets are on the same server as me, along with their items.
-I get to either keep my name, or choose my new one. No 'Malogg2' or any **** like that.
But even if all of these needs are met, I still am unsure about this. I would rather they just fix Alexina.

This times infinity. They should just move them and not tell anyone that alexina's gone, and let all moved players make new names for themselves before they log on.

Yeeeeah, I'm pretty sure there would be a noticeable difference.

This would last five minutes before EVERYONE knew about it. rofl
EDIT: And besides, they have to give us notice in advance. If we tried logging in, and were suddenly prompted to make a new name, how the hell would be ever find our friends?!?

Let's say there is this rare item called A
In Mari, there are 50 As. In Alexina, there are 10As.
In Mari, there are 10,000 people. In Alexina, there are 2000 people.
If they merged, would the ratio of A:population change? In other words, would the ratio of Supply:Demand change?
of course what I just said isn't exactly how it is, but that is the general idea.

Make new ones. It shouldn't be a problem if you're social and not in Ruairi.

Yes. Because we don't know neither the slope of the supply curve nor the slope of the demand curve in BOTH servers. Also, you can't just merge demand curves precisely because they have different slopes.
Edit: and we don't know the price in your example. Supply and demand always involve Quantity and Price.

Yes, the slopes will be different, but they shouldn't deviate too much and when zoomed out, they would look the same.
As for supply, the ratio between items:people won't change much since the drop rate is a set probability.
As for demand, people are people, even though individuals may be different from each other, a whole server of people are bound to be similar. Thus, the demand for an item in one server is to be similar with another server's.
But... you are the professional one here. Please do explain flaws in my reasoning.

Let's not and say we did.
I'm pretty sure Alexina players don't want to have to change their names because Nexon can't uphold a bloody server. I couldn't care less about the economy, it can break it can improve and I wont notice or give a flying crap either way. Not anymore anyway.
Nexon should just pull up their socks and fix the fricken issue with the server and be done with it. maybe just shut the whole fricken game down for a couple days, fix ALL the severs and focus on Alexina. Stabilize the systems and test them then re-release the game after all is said and done. 90% of active players will ***** to their hearts content, they can stand not getting money for a couple days - they make record sales for fricks sake, and in the end everyone will be bloody happy.
This will never happen though. Because of this i almost think they should just shut the fricken thing down if they aren't going to properly maintain it. That will also never happen though unless it gets WICKED bad.

If only they were dedicated enough for that :/.
I suggested this because this is clearly much less work than trying to fix their errors. Char names? nexon don't care. :/

My server has survived two server mergers, so it is well possible.
There were four servers at first.
First time they merged servers 1-3, and now this merger brought the old server 4 in as well.
Now on the "wang tong" service (one of two major ISP services in China) there is only one server.
Economy does suffer some upset, however the bigger winners for consumers and biggest losers for sellers are the servers which had a smaller economy before merger (in our case, this was server 4). Nexon doesn't really care about it.
