Today, that annoying brother of mine told me that alchemy would always be more powerful and versatile than my giant. I remember hearing that before, I believe on a thread from when G9 was just out, and I was stumped. I was hurt too.
If Krish isn't good at PvE [and Alchemy is pretty fun to play too (I started my brother's account out, the quests would be too overwhelming. I gave him a human to play with)], why am I playing Krish?
So, Nation, is it true that Alchemy is better at PvE than Giant Melee? Are my efforts on Krishna worthless?
Now, do note, I am not saying damage. I like both terms of gameplay, but for the PvE. I'm not testing it, I love giants, but I'm disturbed by this.

Yes it is, deal with Alchemy's awesomeness. I know I'm better than you, but you don't have to ask the forums for confirmation!

I personally think the potential for giant alchemy is greater than melee, but I've never been a melee fan...

I'm not sure what you mean, but giant melee is pretty hax... and you can always be a giant who does both, since eventually you'll run out of melee skills to rank and alchemy has no disadvantages to giants, unlike decreased mana efficiency for magic and 25 second cooldown on range.

In reply to that, I don't see the point if I fight with a 1-9 cylinder, and switching weapons can get very complex.
I'm tired of people saying this, and no offense, but it's getting annoying because it's getting impossible.

At lower levels, it will feel as if alchemy is doing better than giant melee, but as you head toward end game, giant melee will clearly overpower alchemy.
But by end game, you will have most things ranked so why even care? lol

Alchemy is cheap (crystals) and really strong. However, it takes a lot of AP.
I am yet to see a newbie Alchemist succeeding early in game, though. Most of the Alchemists I know have a melee or range background, so they provide enough AP to become proficient Alchemists. It drains Stam like hell, so I can see the relation there. I would say it's an end game build.
However, watercannon is fairly strong against mid lvl SM's and dungeons, but as I said, you need something to back it up.

You don't have to try combo different skillsets or try to melee with a cylinder... There are just places where one skill works better than the other or situations where alchemy will complement melee.
For example, using frozen blast on a blinker so you can continually smash it, or if you ever have to fight a ghost, you can use windmill and life drain to finish it off way faster.

I'm not sure how switching weapons is complex. It takes simply a push of the Tab button. Just use one Cylinder along with a Shield, then stick to a Two-handed weapon or Dual Wield for your secondary tab of equipment for melee. One of the options in G12 allows you to automatically switch weapons when you use certain skills that those skills need in order they can be used(EX: You try to use Water Cannon. It automatically switches to your Cylinder if you were using, say, a Broad Axe in your other tab). So switching between the 2 can be really quick. Tarlach dosen't lag, unless you live in the Eastern states or in Australia like Lira.
Like everyone says, building an Alchemist is pretty hard without a basic foundation of a more simpler skill tab, like Melee or Range. Wind Blast and WC don't serve you well like WM does in certain situations. A lack of CM is hurtful too, making you squishy and more of a Glass Cannon than anything.

I have almost no skills other than alchemy ranked. For the first 3-400 levels, I ranked a bit of melee (only r5 WM and Smash, everything else <r9) and life skills. Although I do know how to use melee, I'm very weak at it. (<100 str at 60/20).
Although early game was pretty tough, once you grind through the first few hundred levels of low rank water cannon and alchemy mastery, it starts getting a whole lot easier.
99% of my ap comes from either golem spamming TM/SCC, or rafting with adv magic crystals and water cannon.

If it helps, WC, and most Alchemy Skills can be trained in Their Method with a bit of -CP items to tweak the levels of the zombies. :>

The only skill in Alchemy that can be compared to Giant Melee is Golems. You will need to be carrying tons of Snow Golems to be always be beating a Giant in Melee though. Majority of the Alchemy Skills has nothing to do with melee.

I find that my Elfchemist actually did a tad worse than my Giant at first (though I had the money for good equipment for both). Both were freshly made, mind you. My Giant actually took more AP than my Elf did in terms of leveling to gain AP. My Elfchemist leveled faster.
So far, my Elfchemist still outranks my Giant. My Elfchemist is pure Alchemy and my Giant pure Melee.
I can't say which is 'better' in terms of end game, though.
