I know this is an old topic that has been discussed endlessly; however, we haven't reached an conclusion. G13 is coming soon, so I would like to read your opinions and the answer to a simple question: buff or nerf?

Both, depends on how strong you are stat-wise.

Nerf when it's inputted and more nerf when you spend AP to get back the damage you lost
Then buff when you spend more AP to get make it stronger o_o

It's a ploy to make you spend more NX to get your original power and then some.

Pretty much it. Why else would they include all those fancy skills, and no class restrictions?

it's a buff also because of the new INT def/protection system.(more int = more protection against magic)

But that also means Shadow Ghosts, Wizards, etc. will be more resistant against magic.

Did you really use magic on them in the first place?

From another thread:
Quote from KEL331;195240:
Prot
Prot is high so damage gets lessened.
Prot will still lower damage on both physical/magical attacks.
Nah.. if that were the case Magician Pallys over here are supposed to have like 70% prot against magic dmg
Devcat probably adjusted all of the monsters prot&magic prot so it won't feel like much has changed
And:

G13 patches make it sound like magic is gonna go through dramatic change but its really ±0 situation.
Well, ok a little bit plus thanx to new masteries but inter. magics got nerfed so... yeah, not that much is gonna change.

It's a nerf in that you need to spend more ap for less at first but you can go a lot further with the new formula once you've committed enough ap to build it up.
Also the decrease in damage that's given to inter magics aren't applied to bolts so for those it's a definite buff, I've seen 2k+ non-crit hits in foreign videos with fire\lightning fusion bolts on hard mode mobs.

I feel a bit bad for new Mages now, lol.
It doesn't look like it will affect developed Mages much, though. At-least to the point where it would become super bothersome.

You're expecting a mage to not use magic on hard mobs? What would they use then?

Other way around.
New mages who primarily use bolts and some intermediate magic won't notice a change. The new mastery skills will give them more ways to increase their damage.
Developed mages, on the other hand, who never use bolts and only use intermediate magic will be nerfed until they spend the ap to get their damage back, unless they already have over like 600 Int.
Blaze, nerf.

This is off topic, I was having an argument with a player a long time ago he was stating that everyone in Mabinogi should have the same build and asked (very threateningly) why I was a Giant Mage. We were arguing and Arguing and i asked him "Ok then what do you want me to use on monsters if I shouldn't use magic" he said(or yelled I would imagine) without hesitation "
Windmill!! DUH!!"
It made me laugh a little... people don't understand that not everyone likes to be everything (for one its hard on the AP Dx)
Back on topic, I'm a little confused at the new magic formula. Is the magic attack % based or is it point based? like is it 1 magic attack for every 20 int or 1% magic attack for every 20 int?

It's % based, so the most you can have from stats is +49% magical damage and +49% magical defense at capped INT... There are also upgrades and enchants that add directly to magical damage or defense, though.

It's going to be a pain at first, especially for me with only like 520 int when I go all mage with equips and title.
Spending all that AP will be a drag and of course I'm not too happy about it. But in the end, My Fireball and Thunder will be much stronger I believe as well as a lot stronger cc+4 firebolts.
I've pretty much pushed Ice Spear aside in anticipation of this. I want my Fire and Lightning Damage back first before I even think about touching Ice which I rarely use as is.
