Madoka had its fair share of QUALITY ANIMU moments during broadcast.
All anime production is a victim to rushed outsourced scenes, which they usually fix up in dvd/bluray releases. So yes, stream to watch while broadcasting, download/buy for keeps after dvd comes out.
Bakemonogatari is a dvd for sure. Its really hard to watch it in stream, let alone have it be the original broadcast version.
Madoka is really getting universal praise because it has a little bit of everything that is good in an anime. It appealed to everyone. Even if it wasn't fantastic for them, it wasn't terrible either. Alternatively, Bakemonogatari is 30% missing animations (screen is blank, and you get "insert scene ## here"), 30% cut outs (like the witch scenes in Madoka, but with even less correlation and relation to the actual plot or surroundings), 30% characters standing there talking, and 10% animation. As it turns out, Bakemonogatari is 100% plot driven, almost as if you're reading a visual novel with full voice casting, or maybe just listening to a light novel casette.
This really turns a lot of people off. A lot of my friends can't sit through the first two episodes because there is no real action or movement. But I can say for a fact that I thoroughly enjoyed the series and cannot wait for the 2nd season which is only being speculated for release. I would love to read the light novel translations at some point if it never comes out as an anime.
That said, I believe a series like Death Note isn't really plot driven. Its more action and suspense. Despite it not being a standard shonen adventure or having scenes of active combat, it is still loosely based on "protagonist vs antagonist" model. As far as the whole discussion before goes, I do think the series went a bit downhill since L died.
Light got extremely cocky and didn't really pull a single "omg" moment like he did during his battle with L against the other two kids. He also became a complete dickbag at the end, even more so than he was before, which was not relatable at all. Near and Mello weren't as interesting as L was, though they both had their fair share of interesting. And I was vastly disappointed in Matt's death. Ending was terrible.
Up until L's death I think it was suspense driven. After that it was just a flood of events that were kinda pulled out of his ass. To say thats plot driven would be like saying Code Geass is a mecha series.
"Have you seen Code Geass? Its amazing!"
"No, I don't like mecha animes"
lol.

Oh sh*t.
Are they planning on selling the whole collection?
They probably will a few years after they've milked the series for all its worth.
Do you remember that? Same thing happened with FLCL. Six episode series, sold in 3 different discs for 30 dollars each. You can get all 6 episodes in one set now for 20 dollars though.
