what about a plane crash?
you land in a lake you're freezing cold your pilot is dead and you're all by yourself with nothing but your cold wet clothes and your dog..
If I land in a lake, eating is the least of my worries.
If the plane you're thinking about is the same as the plane I'm thinking about, they stock with food for weeks, and spare parts from the plane could be used to build a radio.
If it's a commercial plane, then people would know where I was when I crashed, and rescue wouldn't take more than a week.

Lmao
What if you're stranded on a mountain? What do you do?
Eat the dog, leave it there or bury it?

NEVER. I'd just walk around and look for some other fruits or things of the sort.

I would never eat my dog.
Firstly, I'm too emotional to do something like that. Secondly, think of it practically. Why eat the dog when the dog is a predator? He can help me catch food. On cold nights, the two of us can share warmth. With a dog with me on my trek back home, I'll be less likely to run into a different large predator, and more likely to find sources of water.
(I'm also afraid of the dark, so I wouldn't last long without a companion.)

See? You had an answer all along. :)
And I absolutely love it.

Hanna, please try not to doublepost, especially outside of Bean Rua. There's an edit button and a mulitquote function for a reason you know.
As for the topic at hand, I'd eat the dog if it's already dead. Everybody in this thread that's going "I can't eat him, he's my friend" are very ignorant by saying that and have probably haven't actually been starved in their life. When you get to the point where your body is literally eating itself to feed you, you don't really care that the only food that you have available to you is your old friend. Donner Party anyone? Do you really think any of those people wanted to eat their friends and family? I extremely doubt it, but as they say, drastic times call for drastic measures. Yes, you'll feel bad after you eat your dog when your mind is thinking clearly now that your body isn't eating itself anymore, but what would you rather do: Starve to death to keep your dog's body intact, in which doesn't stop scavengers from feasting on both of you, or you keeping yourself alive, possibly get rescued, and then keep your dog's memory alive by raising a new dog and being happy?
And for the people saying that they'll kill them selves so that their dog can stay alive: very naive. Yes, the idea is very noble, but also very naive. So yes, you die, and your dog realizes it, and after it mourns for you, it's survival instinct kicks in and your dog starts to eat you. After you're gone, what's going to happen? Unless your dog is a hunting dog, it probably doesn't have the know how to keep itself alive, so in reality, while you're giving them a more prolonged life, they'll also suffer longer now because not only were they starving before you killed yourself, but once you're gone, they'll start starving again, so now you just let your friend starve twice, which I think is worse than eating your friend once.
Sorry if this sounds mean, but it's the truth. You may say that you won't and may whole heartedly believe you won't, but once reality hits and you are actually in that situation, how strong do you think your convictions will really be?

The dog doesn't know any better. I would rather let him eat me than me eat him. But in this example, he died first, so I would rather let the maggots eat his rotten body. But I, personally, wouldn't eat him. He's my friend.
Just like I wouldn't eat my Dad or my Mom if they died atop the mountain with me. I would bury them honorably and promise to myself to make it out of that mountain alive for them.
It may be dumb not to eat what's in front of me, but I value my pets and family too much for that. It would haunt me for a very long time the fact that I ate my own dog or my own brother to survive. That's too much for me.
Survival-wise, it's a stupid decision, but morally it is not.
I just wouldn't do it. I don't care. xD

I couldn't eat my dog either. I'd just bury it and move on. :(

I still wouldn't eat my dog
I would only let decomposers eat her in the dirt..
may sound stubborn but people think differently
if I even tried eating my dog I'd probably be crying so hard I'd throw up.
and sorry for the double post, I forgot I had just posted

@Arsik, even if I wanted to eat my dog, I'd probably throw up trying. I physically could not do it.

And how could I eat my dog with all his fur?
I would have to rip his hair off his skin and not only would I be crying (dry tears, because I'd probably be dehydrated from being stranded so long), but I would also feel utterly disgusted with myself as a person.
I don't even think I could even bite into my dog and swallow without puking right afterwards.
I would bury him and risk dying out there in the cold.
