So I just learned from a friend (and lost all respect for him), that NA has a "macro" that completely restores a fossil 100%. I think that's game breaking. He keeps claiming that it's not a hack and it's a mod, but that is completely false. I will say, some things I do have on my mabinogi are more "mods" and change the gameplay, but not to that serious of an extent. Zoom feature because it's a different look, giant keys because it's easier to see, treasure/mimic seeing because the random feature... but fossil macro is just game breaking. that's something that requires skill... not time.
So what's your opinion? just WHERE do you draw the line?

More of a bot then a hack or mod in my opinion.

Not a hack at all. Just a clicker macro.

This thread again... Well, I agree with the people above. Also, it doesn't really affect people that badly. I mean, I know people who have used the macro and have never gotten a lava cat after 1000 perfect tries. And then, some people get a lava cat after 5 tries, so it's really just based on luck.

i was heavily against the mimic thing for a good 2-3 months before i caved.
1 charge FB and certain others draw my attention though.
Also some can still be used with the proper tools.
Rage.

a "hack" as I understand the term to be properly used, involves bypassing the security of the servers and gaining access to the data therein. Either just to read it, or to insert your own program (virus). Nothing I know of that has been done in mabi falls under this category, though I hear accusations all the time that player A hacked player B. Most of the time Player A got the login info of Player B either directly from Player B telling them, or from Player C telling them.
a mod is some alteration or hook into the client that modifies the client-side data. It affects only your own computer directly. Graphics replacements, font replacement, zoom, cutscene removal, mimics, dungeon maps, and so on all fall under this category. While considerably more "game breaking" things like .dll edits fall under this category, as .dll files are part of the client/package and contained on the user's computer.
a bot is something that inputs commands to your client without your needing to even be present. the fossil restore macro thing falls under this program, as does dyelite, autoclickers, the spam bots and various forms of gold farming, metallurgy, and assorted other sorts of farming bots, ego feeding bots, etc.
A gray area between modding and hacking is packet editing: taking the packets of data your client sends legitimately to the server and rewriting what they say to change the outcome of things.
From what I understand, programs like Dyelite are generally accepted by many players. Spambots and farming bots not so much. I am not sure the line is exactly based on wither or not it is a bot, a mod, or hacking that exactly determines if it acceptable or not, but more about what is done and could be done with it. Any actual hacking is pretty dangerous to nexon and the playerbase as a whole, as getting access to private information saved there is undeniably bad. Modding your client can be benign or game breaking... largely because mabi is designed somewhat badly in that regard, and game breaking stuff can be done with client-side data.
As for the fossile restore macro, I don't really see it as game breaking. It was around pretty much immediately upon NA getting g8, and was used by a lot of people. Lavacat robes are still pretty rare. Earning money and exploration exp is still faster via rafting than mining your own fossils even if you can restore them in a few seconds without the dexterity and properly sensitive mouse to do it. I would agree it would be gamebreaking if fossil restoration was the best source of exploration exp and only the difficulty of restoring fossils kept it balanced. I'd rather raft than mine sulfur golems or pay for fossils. Hobs give pretty good exp while you collect stars.

You shouldn't lose respect for someone just because of something ingame o -o

I'm pretty sure I'm alone on my opinion so I'll just keep it to myself.

A macro... isn't really a hack... or a mod... it's just a macro. It shouldn't bother you so much.

It's not really a "mods" or "hacks" since Fossil macro doesn't requires you to change or download the data for Mabinogi. o-o
You shouldn't lose all the respects for someone just because of something they did in game. o-o;

3rd party program yes.
About the macro, i used it for a while. Why? when you don't have any range or magic to decently raft for exploration xp you need one alternative.
Cor exploration is ridiculously boring because the chest vanishing bug and ferghus cousin, voight. Trying to get exploration 20 based on fossils takes around 200+ fossils
Now try to have patience to restore 200 fossils everytime you rb.
And i'll gladly use one autoclicker when i want to rank playing instrument. There's ppl around hacking accounts, doing 1 charge fireballs, scamming others, etc. And getting away with it.
Why would i be worse than the others when i use one macro to rank a skill or getting exploration? And macros are so easy you can make them yourself

seriously the term hacking is good back then.. until some people mistakenly thinks it as cracking which is so damm different.. -.-''
ONTOPIC: its not a hack or a mod.. its a macro.. you can use the word 'cheating' for it..
