  Not really. Ice Spear while short, still has 1400 range as compared to WM, which only has 300 range. rF WM vs r1 WM is 66% increase while 200 extra range for Ice Spear is only 15%. In practice, that small percentage of difference isn't enough for most people to notice. Ice Spear is still short range.

  Well I was using Windmill as an example because it's a clear difference what that 200 range adds. Because of perspective, it's not easy to judge distance that's not immediately next to you, but that doesn't mean it's insignificant.
  
  I find it hard to believe that anybody who uses IS frequently would not notice this, because it was obvious to me the first time I tried it even though I rarely ever use IS anymore. I supposed you could get used to the shorter range, but it really does matter since you really want to hit as many targets as possible, and unlike TH and FB, it matters where exactly you're firing it.

  Also, I've been able to fire Int/Adv spells from the staff even when it says that the target is out of range a short distance. That might just be partly some server lag, though.
  
  Even if it does turn out to have a slightly shorter range, it doesn't pose much of a problem in combat. The range difference is very small, proportionally (As opposed to the WM/Ice Spear width/explosion range. A small boost there seems like a great deal more simply because it is, proportionally.)

  The Wiki says Hail Storm it only gets a 5x multiplier at five charges. And I assume the number 6 is for how many fully charged shots you can fire before Hail Storm runs out? Hail Storm can fire 7 fully charged crystals before the time is up.

  rank 1 hailstorm. 880 int. 5 charges. rank 5 ice mastery. S3 trinity staff. 1 def/ 0 prot mobs --->average damage non crit is about 3600
  
  3600 x 6 = 21,600
  
  On hardmode mobs with 50% protection you get a good 10k+ damage before time runs out. Add in the fact that with the right gear set-up you should average 2 crits in there for about 5.9k each (math doesn't work but thats the number i see the most, 5.9k)
  
  I would say on average I hit for 18k in hardmode every 30 seconds using hailstorm. Not sure if that answers it.
