^Internet lag or graphic lag? Internet it's actually easier to control with spears, but if it's graphic lag then I can't help you much, try turning down your setting, and overclocking your graphic card.
I have tried both, liked Swords better.

I wonder if certain types of people gravitate to certain types of characters. I mean, even in other games it takes a specific type of person to play the healer, especially if their intention is solely "For the good of the party". Lann in this game is extremely action oriented, so it's no so far-fetched that it might have a unique draw for a specific crowd of people.

my hypotheses:
Lann for the DPS lovers and/or emotionally unstable individuals (spears). The only man available, so also for the men who are misogynistic/don't like playing opposite genders. Sword variant people like playing it safe, and are usually more rational than their spear counterparts. Also, Spin2win is for those who are lazy to click too many times!

Fionas for the patient, stable individuals, who's hearts both lie with a need for support/solid defence. Likes to be the last one standing. Often overestimates the amount of damage they contribute.
Evie's for the asian culture lovers, those with a love for damage and instant gratification with easy gameplay (scythe) or a love for support and magic (staff). Staff is for those who persevere, have kind hearts, and like to sit back and let other party members do most of the work. Staffs tend to be naive individuals, and many are staff simply to be different oddly enough.

But those stereotypes are right on!
Add one more, spin2win for those who are lazy to click too many times (me included sometimes).

I'm a Sword Lann for life. I consider myself less than average mainly because I have such terrible lag that sometimes when it looks like my bar is at 2-3 or more, I'm actually frozen and can't move. I would be much better if I didn't have all of this lag. I honestly try to not stereotype, but it's very annoying hearing people go, "Can you switch to Spears Yanm"? or "Why is there a sword lann here? Lol, they're so fail". It get's irritating but I'll never stop being a Sword Lann. Besides, I lag MUCH worse when I try spinning with Spears. I have a pair of Dual Reapers (Take THAT Reaper!! Ripped your blasted sword off your hand and made it into a spear >:D) that I mess around with in a Perilous Ruins Daily and I lag like CRAZY spinning. Even if I use LLLR or LR, I much prefer my invincibility frames with Slip Dash and the low stamina cost.
I've had some people say that to me, especially in Hidden speed runs, and you know what I do to them? I kick them instantly, why? cause I can finish a solo run by the time it takes to listen to some nooby spear lann complaining about how I should go spear.
Second point, a sword lann who mastered slip dash, has 200% more survivability rate, + timing is everything for a good sword lann. Yes, our dps isnt as high as spear lanns, but i can gaurauntee you that in hard raids, our survivability will contribute to greater dps.
Ex, Irukul run, I was the only sword lann in pt, and I died much less frequently than my spear lann counterparts. Once again, mastering slip dash is the key to success! :)

I dunno, but I just hate stereotypes because at least, in my own experience, not a single stereotype in a game has applied to me or anyone I've met. Also, I wouldn't like someone judging me based on which character I play. o_O
Also, I actually dislike tanking/defense classes the most, yet I'm maining a Fiona. And I don't like Evie although my personality should gravitate towards Evie. =D

As much as I tell myself that this isn't the proper way to think...
...I can't help but feel that people who play lanns are just slightly dumb.

So you think that just because a person plays a specific class in a game, then he's dumb?
Some pretty fail logic right there.

No.
I think that they play the specific class because they're dumb.
Patience is what you need for Fiona. Precision is what you need for Evy.
Impatient, imprecise people prefer to play Lann.
(That being said, I don't hold sword lanns in as nearly a sour light as I hold spin2win spear lanns.)

I dunno...I'm a pretty impatient person and I tried Lann and liked it, but in the end, I still preferred my Fiona. XD
Also, isn't it supposed to be harder for spear Lanns to survive compared to blinking Evies or something? That's what I've been hearing from discussions anyway.

Yeah, but surviving isn't too hard at all until Blood Lord and stuffs.

That's because Fiona is a ****ing brick house beast who sees giant assed bears and hears her Evy and Lann party members say, "Runoutdaway!" and says, "I think I'll just tank it."
Seriously, Fiona is a mad beast.

Fiona = Patience
Evie = Precision
Lann = Skill
Seriously, though, you can't survive as a Spear Lann unless you know what the hell you're doing.

I would like to direct you to any full spear party ever, with a showcase on spin2win nightmare runs.
