Actually with my gear (far from end game missing dex round cap elegant for my wpc and white horse restored) i'm only 1.3k but i can run around hardmodes and elites with just about 400 max damage and 101% crit rate for smashing, i can do 2k critmills and 5k ish smashes, i'm far from end game or end game enchants, with enough petwork you can keep yourself alive i've ran quite a few elite mission daily's with people from a guild i plan to apply for when i hit 1.5k
Most of the time not dying, a couple times i die (forgetting to heal at the Cerberus rooms and get smacked with an ice bolt in deadly) Melee is great if you know how to work it, not saying i was anywhere close to the best on those missions or the one who helped the most, (1.3k in a party of 2k+) But i can hold my own which is good for now till i get stronger and better enchants to do more damage.
Also one of the most expensive parts of an end game melee build is the 2 earthquake stout accessory's which can be replaced by cheaper options if you really cannot afford 3m for each.
If done right you wont die a lot or have ****ty dps, even if your connection is not 100% perfect.
