Why are you posting if you don't care about other people's opinions? :P

I am merely expressing my distaste. I'm sorry you were so sheltered all of your life that you can't handle me calling someone stupid.
No, Sin. I just know the difference between being polite and being disrespectful. And trust me,
there are ways of expressing your distaste without being distasteful.
On a forum, in real life, it matters not.
Respect others. Don't jump on someone's back just because you're skeptic or disagree with something.
Who cares if he can skim through a book like nothing? Who the hell really cares?
Cut the sarcasm, acknowledge your faults and move on.

Back on topic, was it Dresden that you were reading? I only read the first book so I don't know if later volumes get that long.
My impression of the first book in the Dresden Files: not really that exciting. Do later books in the series get any better?

Because I love to see idiots attempt to failtroll me.

Respect needs to be earned, not given for no reason. I show no one respect unless they have some way earned it. I will definitely show respect to some idiot trying to be a hardass on the internet, because really, they just don't deserve it.
I'm probably worse than Sin, I just don't care to waste my time arguing stupid things. I made the thread because I was curious whether or not there were other people who read fast, and to see if there were actually people who enjoyed reading (Which is rare).

I was reading the Codex Alera, Academ's Fury... And from the two books I have read of his, they are ALL slow.
The only way to really get through his books are to skim, just because of how long-winded he tends to be.

You'd almost think he gets paid by the word. I'm discouraged from reading his series if you agree that they're all like that though~
As for the original topic, I never learned to speed read, but I think my 'reading for comprehension' speed is faster than average. I don't skip, but I still finished books faster than others and had time left over at the end of those national exams [sat/lsat/gre/whatevs].

I disagree. Just like you're innocent until proven guilty, one deserves to be respected until a reason is found not to.
One should always be kind when meeting strangers. Not rude.
One should always believe what other people have to tell you. Not skeptical 24/7.
Unless I know that what you're saying is completely wrong, why shouldn't I believe you? I know nothing about Biology, so I shouldn't believe what a Biology professor tells me about evolution? And if I don't agree, I should call him an idiot and say the worst things about him, like Sin did?
No. It's called respect. It is something everything deserves. Respect is only earned after you lose it.
I believe you though. :) And I'm sorry he said those things. He's usually nice, however. (Or so I've seen.)
Maybe he's just having a horrible day.

You're right, you're not a troll. You're just another loser on the Internet who's trying to act hard, and so far has just succeeded in being an utter tool.
Nice ad hominem there.
>who's trying to act hard
Yep, because I'm the guy here claiming he can finish a 700 page book in 3 hours, right? Although that's irrelevant now because you admitted yourself you thought most pages in most chapters were useless enough to skip.

I would never want your respect. You are worth less than a dime.
Although, I do agree that respect has to be earned and not just given for no reason like Phunkie is implying. Just the same as trust has to be earned. Although I believe in the best of people, you should always expect the worst.

Enough of the petty debate, it's time to get back on track and talk about reading.

I respect you, however. I haven't called you silly names and I haven't started attacking yet, 'cause I honestly do not know you. Berating a stranger is never classy.
I reported you though. :hi:
ANYWAY. I don't read as often I would like to. Any good books, guys?

Female. And not mad. Reading your posts is getting rather boring though.
I finished reading House of Leaves recently [late on the bandwagon], and it was interesting as far as experimental novels go, but not particularly worthy of all the hype. (I was supposed to get scared...?)

Oh, how sweet of you Phunkie. And Chiri, look, I know my posts are infinitely beyond your comprehension level so if you don't understand them, don't read them. Simple as that.
I do not have any book recommendations because the books I read are in a language you do not understand. (No, this is not a joke, I speak Dutch.)

I understand what you write and it bores me. "U MAD?" is hardly speech which requires an infinitely high comprehension level. If I cared, I might expect more from you. There is no conflict there. I'll stop reading when I feel like it; there's no reason for you to dictate my actions.

Well, I do read for enjoyment, though I don't read as much as I used to because of working etc. :what:
I read all of the Redwall books in the time of a few months, and knowing that he makes 1 once a year I'm waiting for more (though I haven't read the most recent one)
If a book has ALOT of text just describing things I might just pick up another book and try to continue later, such as I tried starting the unabridged Hunchback of Notre Dame but up until page 50 or so :died:
Now I'm reading Brave Story (which is about 817 pages), I've had it for a few weeks because I haven't been reading it often, if it was back then I would have finished it in a week @_@

It would take me a week to read 700 pages x_x
I personally don't read books at all.. I find them boring.
The only book that I actually enjoyed was The Outsiders and Rumble Fish >w>
All the other ones just bore me to death
