Transferring Spirit Weapon is done through a quest talking to Tarlach, Berched, and Dorren, apparently there is 2 ways:

I know some people with strong Egos, and that's just from passive feeding. Although some of those Egos were broken already for newer ones.
Leaving Mabi on while they go eat/sleep/internet/school, holding Ego while waiting for partymembers/spawn lag/cont warp/ptj, etc.
Once your Ego is strong and you use it in daily combat, the time spent raising it virtually becomes nothing, as you'll always have it in your hand and it will always be growing.
There's so much multi-tasking you can do while raising your Ego, while the same cannot be said Caladbolg. No doubt you could obtain it before an end-game Ego, but the actual time consciously spent getting it is much, much higher.
Which is why I say it's a lower cost-benefit.
And because everything is easier to understand with an analogy, it's like cooking rice. The process itself can take like 15-20 minutes, but you only spend 1-2 minutes putting the rice into the steamer. The rest of the time you're not actually cooking it, it's cooking itself.
Meanwhile if you're cooking something like Eggs, you need to tend to it the entire time. You can't just leave a bunch of ingredients on the stove and come back to a perfectly cooked omelette.

From personal experience, the conscious time of raising an ego is far more than anything else.
Besides, even if you 100% botted it and were completely uninterrupted by anything 24/7, it'd still take about three months just to get a single stat to 50.
Three months feels exaggerated considering how fast I've seen some people's Egos grow without botting.
But even if that is true, a Bastard Sword only needs 42/30/30 stats to beat the Caladbolg's damage, though the Crit is nice. That can be done within a month for dedicated feeders.
I know someone who feeds their ego 10ish a day. They are almost 50 str/will/luck. It took them 220+ days so far.
Anyway, again my point is Id rather have two ego par weapons and a bow ego (or 2h, or wand, or whatever you're in to) than just an ego and an ego-par weapon.
MP naturally regens at 3 MP/min during the day, 9 MP/min during night.
Supposed r1 Meditation's recovery rate is 1500% or 15x. Thus, with r1 Meditation on, it's 45 MP/min during the day, 135 MP/min during the night.
Mana Shield drains 30 MP/min, excluding the initial activation cost and getting hit while it's on.
Well, you can already have an ego and two ego-par (or better) weapons.
Bastard/Muramasa ego + Elsinore and special upgraded HLB.
Elves and giants are the only ones stuck with ego and an ego-par (or better) weapons as of now.
Meh, I'd prefer that I'd get to know more about the goddam Drain Wand, or at least the new staves, but nooooooo.

Upgraded HLB isn't really ego par lol I use a wing bow ego, which is weak, and have higher dmg than an S type and I'm not even maxed out. I'm excluding R-types from my arguments because the same could be argued for melee or anything.
The lightning sword is 160 max vs max muramasa which is 184, 24 difference. HLB S type vs ring bow difference is like 40 damage (maybe 30 something damage if you use crazy costly enchants and an X-grade) and we dont even know about HLB end-stats ego-wise
So even in that argument I'd rather have the benefit of 30 something damage than 20 something
To add to that, I'd rather have a wing bow ego than a HLB of equal damage because the wing bow is faster attk speed and more range (meaning even faster). With AR that's an extra 10-20% more dps or go for ringbow for mag spamming for the extra 40 dmg.

HLB S-Type is 141 max, only 14 less than maxed Ring Bow.
Realistically speaking (no nonsense multipliers or lich drop) you get 129~131 max, which is enough to match Wing/LLB and with higher critical. And that's S-Type, R-type is significantly better. As an example, my r6 HLB would have exactly 129 max damage if I'd chosen to make it S-Type, and it is not max artisan and does not have Nobility or Sniping and it is not an x-grade Lich drop.
R-types are not excluded from melee, they are simply not taken into account because R-Type Battle Sword cannot match Bastard/Muramasa ego in average damage even with its critical bonus.
