RAGHUNATHAPALLY (WARANGAL): In an act of mob justice, a youth was burnt alive by angry villagers right in the presence of cops after he allegedly raped a girl.
The girl, who initially resisted the attempts of the accused, is battling for her life after the youth hit her with a hammer on her head. This macabre incident took place in Raghunathapally in Zaffargadh mandal of Warangal district on Tuesday.
Seething with rage, hundreds of women and other villagers poured kerosene on the accused, Jilla Babu, and set him on fire in front of the girl's residence. With more than 60 per cent burns, Babu, 24, died on the spot. When the cops were whisking him away to the police station, the enraged women obstructed the vehicle. Ignoring the cops' pleas to leave the accused alone, they dragged him out of the vehicle and set him on fire. The deceased was a daily wager in nearby Perumandlagudem village in Wardhannapet mandal. He is survived by wife and three daughters. His wife claimed that he had been mentally unstable for the last couple of months.
Sources said Babu forcibly entered the house of the 18-year-old girl when her farm labourer parents were away to take part in NREGS works on the outskirts of the village. When he tried to act fresh with her, she warned him. It was at this time that he hit her with a hammer that he was carrying for his work.
He brutally hit her several times and then forced himself on her. When the girl raised an alarm, neighbours came to her rescue and caught hold of the accused.
Soon, several villagers gathered and beat him up severely. Police came and tried to control the situation by taking
Babu into custody. But, the angry women refused to let go of him and torched him to death.
Meanwhile, the girl, who completed her Intermediate in Hanamkonda, was taken to MGM Hospital in Warangal in a serious condition. When her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to Nims, Hyderabad.
Sources said she suffered grievous injuries on her forehead and left eye. Women activists and public representatives condemned the heinous act.

Eh, I'd like to say he got what he deserves, but damn...burning to death and drowning have to be the worst ways to die.

He got just what he deserved. The law system wouldn't have brought him justice.
(Not like it brings many people to justice to begin with, though)

He was mentally unstable.
I wonder how seriously, though.

Mental instability isn't an excuse unless he was completely out of control.
I assume that since this was his first (known) time doing it that he had sufficient control over his actions. It was never proven that he was unstable; his wife just claims that he was. For all we know, she could be lying to save her and her kid's from persecution.

Ouch, that's quite some extreme measures they did there. I mean like, he hit her brutally, so he got the pain back, but like way worse.
He still got what he deserved for what he did, anyways.

Oh, because fighting brutality with brutality is obviously the best solution. /sarcasm
Rape may be a horrible crime but murdering a criminal as a group is not justice. Honestly, those women are more monstrous than the rapist.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but honestly, the most he would get is jail time and a bit of hate otherwise.
That poor women will live the rest of her life traumatized because of what he did. For all we know, he may have done it again for more women. I think he got the fairest judgement there is.

Understandable, as it seems to be the most common response.
Perhaps my issue isn't how the women behaved but simply because they
did behave. The fact that these women probably lived simple, law-abiding lives but the moment it became personal, they deemed it proper to put the law in their own hands. A simplified equivalent would be a child asking for a toy and not getting it, so the child steals it. I can't make a huge judgement on these women because I have no idea what they were thinking while they planned and performed this operation. Everyone has their own opinion on justice but punishing a crime with a crime is ridiculous.

Terrible way to die, he definitely deserved it. He suffered a few short moments and his victim gets to suffer for the rest of her life. This really is a crime that shouldn't be shrugged off with "Give him about 8 months in prison."

What he did was truly terrible but I don't feel he deserved to die the way he did.
